When I'm out training (mostly on my own) I don't care if people slip my wheel, drop me, tell me they there or whatever. I normally have a goal for that ride and that's all I worry about ....

Is it only me that feels, the worst type of "join" is when a cyclist come from behind (be it from a side road or used you as a target to chase) you and then just sits wheel, says nothing etc. Stays there for many km etc getting a free ride!!!

So how do you pass a cycling group on your route travelling slower than you. Seems some of these groups hog all the available space + have a security or group vehicle behind. Do you just squeeze by on the right greeting as you go? (I don't think the guys really like this as I got no hellos back and even a FO from the pack as I passed... )

Must say, I honestly have never experienced any rudeness from other riders. We often pass slower riders and groups and are being passed by riders/ groups and their is always friendly greetings.

perhaps that guy that you've passed and greeted was Louisvanalphen and he thought that you are just being arrogant and that is why he told you to FO or GFY or FFS WTF

On the other hand - you know how annoying it is when a group of say 5 riders go past you and then once they're in front of you they slow right down?

Burnt all their matches . . . .

If you compliment a Roadie on his/her socks, they'll allow you to suck their wheel for at least 25km's.

Thanks for the tip. Learning a lot from this thread... :D

I have a phobia of ankle bones.  :P

I have found though there is a direct relationship between length of socks and bunch riding skills...

Everyone is *** at riding in a bunch in the beginning, its a skill to learn. Just letting those around you know helps out the whole situation, help people learn etc.

Well - at least now my socks won't give me away...

So will you be wearing long socks or really short ones... what about suspenders to hold your socks up that you clip to your bibs... very cool

'Hi, if I can keep up the pace, do you mind if I join?'

"Hey dude, sure you can!! Nice bike BTW, where you from? Oh really me too, where were you at school.......... bla bla bla"

WOW, how easy was that.

Phlegm....

Ha ha ha ha.......

This made me think of my very first MTB "race"; The Barberton half marathon in the late 90's. My preparation was a couple of rides in Groenkloof and Fountains in Pta. Coming out of the mountains I was dead, I have never seen climbs like that in my life! There is this long stretch of tar (possibly 5 km's) to the finish and this little kid came and sat on my back wheel and drafted unashamedly. I phlegm'd as much as I could but this kid just sat on my wheel and just before the end whisked past and gave me a super smile....

Why the hell does it matter? It's not like he is holding you back...You are riding anyway and getting a workout while he is loafing... Pfft roadie mentality

You need to understand that for a strange man to not greet, then put his face up my backside and follow me on my ride is borderline stalkerish.  I ride with my hands in the drops 90% of the time, and spandex does not leave much to the imagination. Respect a persons personal space. You just don't do that to a lady.

I just don't get his. Its not like he is hopping onto your bike or bakkie. He is riding on a public road which neither of you own. Yes it is courtesy to say hi, but to ask for permission or having to have a protocol? GFY. Arrogance is what I call it.

I agree it may be a public road and he has the right to ride there.  I also have the right to to execute a well timed sprint interval.  Honestly if I'm doing my own thing and I don't want company I have the right to ride alone.
