Calculus Bikes Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I have an open question to all the Hubbers out there: Do you think there is room for bamboo bikes on the SA cycling stage? There are some very good arguments for bamboo bikes, but yet we don't see them around our races, on training rides or in the streets parked outside nice coffee bars. How do you think this observation is to be explained? Looking forward to your words of wisdom and insight. CB

ZakAttak Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I wooden go there, or maybe I wood....Seen one a few years ago at the Argus Cycle Tour, nicely made.... and very nice to look at.... It was gorgeous in my opinion, not that it counts....
Fat Boab Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Saw an oke ride a bamboo bike at last year's Jock. He had a cassette like a satellite dish.... But it was quite sexy, the bike that is.

PhilipV Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I've always wanted a singlespeed ZamBikes pub bike. Bamboo bikes are super sexy. Is there room? Of course. Is it as suitable as Ali or carbon for frame material? Well you'll know better than us. But there is very little info on it available, so it's pretty unknown.

Dullscalpel Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I really didn't know that bamboo bikes were a thing...
Grease_Monkey Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 IMO - Cool as a cruiser or recreational bike, so there is definitively room, but I don't think anyone is going to be replacing their carbon racers with bamboo bikes.
Patchelicious Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I really didn't know that bamboo nikes were a thing...They aren't really, better known for their Air Jordan's.

If you go "Simple Sam" and make it affordable, single speed etc, it will have a retro look and feel. I'll use it as a commuter if I had the $
Velouria Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 I rode past two people on my commute about 2 weeks ago on bamboo bikes. I did feel like a planet murdering, capitalist consumer pig on my carbon road bike, and I could tell they were judging me too! And I was envious - they do look rather cool.
Calculus Bikes Posted March 17, 2017 Author Posted March 17, 2017 They aren't really, better known for their Air Jordan's. Must be a new line they are trying...

Could I press you a bit to think why you feel that way?
Pure Savage Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 Lets slow down here, when you say bamboo bikes, is it one of those 5 tubes are bamboo and everything else is normal kind of bikes. Roll my eyes at those.. Come back when you have lashed the thing together, have bamboo handle bar, seat post, saddle and pedals. Then we can call it bamboo. Thats like calling my Scott S5 with a seat tube a "carbon bike"
