Women being "helped" along by a male competitor

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this... so I get a team event - pushing up hills etc is perfectly acceptable. However, what is the protocol on an event for individual women and men. The amount of women I see being "helped" up a hill or on a drag by a male competitor is quite prevalent. The women is therefore given a substantial advantage in her own race... Should this be allowed/ policed more etc? Hard to prove unless you witness this but it seems to be ignored more than not.

start the ladies and men at different times ....

give the ladies a 45 to 60 minute head start.  So if a lady is reliant on a team mate, she starts off with a massive time loss that her helper must catch up before helping her.

This has already been discussed ad nauseum. Click on fanievb's link and enjoy the reading.

Happens a lot in shorter events as well - not only male supporting female, but dad helping junior along.  While I don't necessarily have a problem with the support (that juniors get), it does seem a bit unfair to other youngsters doing it on their own steam and maybe not making it onto the podium.

(trying to past extract of results from Cape Town Cycle Tour 20km MTB event where at least 3 dad-and-junior pairs finished within top 12, but unable to get it pasted here).

From the CSA Rules :-

"22.07 Drafting

22.07.001 Drafting by or between riders of the opposite gender is not permitted i.e. A male rider cannot allow a female rider to draft him during the race or via versa of obtain an unfair advantage over other competitors of the same gender.

22.07.002 Drafting in bunches is accepted cycling practice but drafting only to gain an individual advantage is unsporting and is

not acceptable."

Is this in fun rides or actual races?

As far as I know the women racing does not have men in there bunches anymore.

If a fun rider helps a fun rider, I hope he at least gets a telephone number from the lady...

Confused I am. So... drafting is ok. Then... drafting is not ok.

Next time I will remember to draft for my teammates and not for my own advantage. I will build up draft points and share with them later. Kind of like that big oak in the last green mile.

Racing for podium.  No.

Competing in a funride.  No worries

Agreed.

To add to this, if said lady needs help and has nice bum to push on.... you push!!

Are you really confused, or just being facetious? ;)

This rule is there to cover the situation where let's say a rider in VA is dropped fromthe main group. This rider then latches onto the VB break as they come past, he then drafts his way back the VA group. That's an unfair individual drafting advantage.

If the woman is licensed, she will get DQ'ed.

Club rides and team races, assistance is fine. Solo races I give it the  . Chivalrous, yes, but it's just not cricket!
