Can I ask what we are trying to achieve with this thread?

Yeah but I'm pretty sure the massive rental/staff/electricity/etc... costs for CWC are a factor as well... I mean...look at CWC's location and building in comparison, logically speaking they should be more expensive.

ignore logic .... do some homework and CHECK prices.

On many items CWC is significantly better than the rest.  Their range beats the rest handsdown.

Bought grips with my bike in Paarl .... could get those grips 25% less at Gecko Cycles ... 50% less on the special CWC had a few days back.  I will check but I think CWC normal price is also less than what I paid in Paarl.

PS - bought my casette with EvoBikes 2 weeks back.  VERY happy with their service levels !!

Couple of points:

America uses a term MSRP - Minimum Suggested Retail Price

Brands protect their brand by giving retailer the confidence that the product won't be dumped in the market, effectively making products redundant.

This makes the risk of buying stock a bit lower of you know there is a level playing field and the market protected.

In South Africa we have RRP - Recommended retail price. No minimum... but.

When you can buy your Garmin 820 from a car part dealership at cost +5% and a local bike shop who gives sound advice and trying to make a buck you need to decide whether or not to support the cycle shop.

Brands win the game when they are able to create an economy within an industry where everyone, including the local bike shop expert, the entrepreneurial investor and logistics manager (whether an brand is direct or use a distributor) makes a living.

Some distributors are greedy... yes... some are actually paying their duties and play the game according to the rules.

The brands don't create the industry, the buying power of the consumer does. Instead of looking after the interest of the retailer, the brand should look after their target market and in doing so the retailer interest would be taken care of naturally.

Okay for example - there is only one importer of Onza tyres - Rush Sports - Onza themselves on their website say they are the only distributor for South Africa.

My question, why a pricing disparity of R180 for the same tyre across two bike shops (with Evo seemingly the larger one/more popular, greater market share, better biking arena penetration) given that they are both online based, both offer the same kind of shipping, etc...

My Crest MK3 hoops were significantly cheaper from Evo bikes, and Janos service was great. Nothing against CWC, there prices are also very good, and service is great.

I think it pays to shop around, also I kinda like to support the "underdog"

3k for NX upgrade kit from evo bikes

Slx upgrade kit was like 3.7k from crc with duties and 3.8k from cwc at the time. now 2.8k at cwc.

Thats more than evobikes but doesn't mean I won't buy from them. So far they have hiven me better service in terms of feedback.

Proces will go up and down , nothing we can't live with, right ?

Oh ok, so we are trying to strong arm these guys into lowering their prices.

Cool, well I don't want to participate in that.

Over and out.

I am not sure it is a strng arm tactic, but retailers do need to watch their pricing, and am quite sure they are all quite aware of what others are charging, and often cannot compete with other due to purchase pricing, consumers are also welcome to buy where ever they please, this thread was surely just a comment from the OP, i often shop around, and yes, it is frustrating to have to order from multiple stores, and i often even pay a littl emore due to saving on shipping

because the shops can set their own pricing. Their own margins come into it. This is a GOOD thing.

As we are all allowed to shop around and buy cheaper from another supplier if we want to. Its just that Evo started out with great pricing in the past, borne of the premise that "we'll rent cheap premises to pass on savings to you the customer", and I've always supported Janos and them because they really do go the extra mile to assist you, the original premise of this post was that Evo seems to be getting more and more expensive as time goes on. I'd prefer to support Evo as I always have (have spent over R30k there by my calculations over the past 18 months) its just getting harder to with price being such an important factor nowdays.

Why is it such a good thing?

free market economy. Those who price too high will over time lose market share unless they offer something significantly better than the competition.

Price fixing (the opposite of a free market) is not a good thing. It restricts competition, and creates barriers to entry.
