Double wrapping bar tape

Been thinking of double wrapping my bar tape; and tought that perhaps instead of using two layers of bar tape, why not cut up an old innertube for the base layer?

 

What do you guys think?

Wrap one over another and when it starts looking a bit tired unwrap it and swop the top layer with the underlying one.

Get yourself some Zipp CX Bar tape half the price of Lizzard and twice as comfortable

If you're double wrapping for thickness only, then go ahead with the tube. But if you're looking for cushioning, then two sets of tape is the way to go. Tubes aren't squishy, especially when wrapped tight enough that it wont shift around. So you'll just gain the girth but not the squishiness. Giggity

I tried that, and the top layer was a tad too short - the extra thickness to wrap meant i had to skimp on the overlap wrapping on the top layer.

 

So what I did is just wrap the tops with two layers and the drops with one. So from the levers towards the stem... that has a double wrap. It means I have enough to double wrap as the drops are only single. I'm OK with that. I used some old silicon wrap i had taken off as my bottom wrap and it works just fine
