I still find it bezare that people say r300 is expensive for entry... Cancel your dstv and you can do 3 events per month.

Also "i can ride road anytime ", sure, but I cannot find 10 other people to go race against.. Let alone a 1000.

If you really poor, then drop me pm and ill pay your ticket, but you better not arrive with your brand new BMW and r70k bike

That is all good if you live in CT. I did 2 races a month from 2012 to 2016. Now a race cost me about R1750. Traveling cost are just to high. I think the declining numbers are mostly out of towners.

I look for good value for money races that make it worth the travel(100km plus) , the sct is not one of them, but i have to be in Worcester this weekend so I might just as well ride it.

My DSTV subscription gives me and the wife a whole months worth of TV watching/entertainment.

R390.00 rand for a race gives only me a few hours worth of "entertainment", so I guess I know my priorities.

And thanks, I'll send you the PM, then you can do the early bird entry for me. That way "we'll" save you a few bucks in the process.

And I promise you, I'll rock up in my 2004 VW Polo and 2007 vintage bike equipped with salvaged 105 components.

For me the road races I choose are ones where I get to ride roads I wouldn't normally otherwise as just too much traffic or security issues.  They are generally at the tail end of the MTB season and make a nice transition, always takes a bit of getting used to bunch riding again in Oct. Stellenbosch happens to be on a weekend when I am down there for business so works well but I must say there are no road races I would religiously travel large/expensive distances to year after year.

So spoilt for choice these days with MTB options that seldom even repeating stage races and moving more and more to adventure rides and ones that access new usually unrideable areas after "knocking off" many (but by no means all) of the bigger ones.

considering doing this, only really because of the late entry and the argus seeding.

since no one did argus this year, and last year i fooled around i need to put in a good result somewhere!

from what i read, you can just rock up at registration and enter for R30 extra  - that is far too easy, surely there's a catch!

Hell hoogte at start sorts out groups in any case.  Never been issue.

Not so sure about this? I have seen massive group mergers just after Hells with this race, thing with the 1 minute gaps the front okes in the group are actually only 30 seconds behind the back guys of the previous group, which make it fairly easy to catch other groups if you are a determined climber.

Hate blowing our own trumpet, but its such a vibe racing with mates. Everyone makes the effort to come along when there is 7-8 other guys going along. You just need to replicate that with 100 other like groups of guys. fun fun.

There is only Hels and then that little bump at Klapmutskop to worry about. That little bump comes after the rollers on the way back against the wind, and is just waiting to awake a cramp or 2.

The printed numbers on demand is a disaster, queues are not long but you can stand up to 15mins in it. 4 queues & printers.

Ja, i think getting your number printed on Sunday morning should be a last resort. It could be chaos if everyone waits until then
