Okay so on trying to remove my RD I stripped the bolt, and with all my efforts could not

remove the RD from the hanger. I ride a Yeti so Off I went to purchase a new hanger

Not to mention the shops name but I was charged R650 for a new hanger. With all due respect to bikes shops wanting to make a living I find this outrages. Its a little piece of machined metal not a gold bar. I can probably buy a cheap bike for R650

What has happened to the price of bike parts that companies think its okay to charge that sort of money

What are your thoughts?
Am I ranting and raving for nothing?

What have you paid for your RD Hanger?

That sounds crazy!

Specialized are considered to be very "expensive" and even they only charge me R275 a hanger!

My suggestion is always to make sure that you have a spare hanger for your bike - you never know when you may need it. Call around / look online until you find a place which gives you a good price and then buy two.

IMO, yes R650 for little piece of aluminium is a lot, but...

Yeti = premium brand = premium replacement parts = premium price.

Also, that little piece if metal was made to fit your type of frame and maybe one or two others only, no other bike in the world will be able to use that hanger and on top of that its an essential part without which your bike/frame becomes useless.

Most I've paid for a hanger, R400

In the context of supply and demand discussions, demand refers to the quantity of a good that is desired by buyers.  An important distinction to make is the difference between demand and the quantity demanded.  The quantity demanded refers to the specific amount of that product that buyers are willing to buy at a given price.  This relationship between price and the quantity of product demanded at that price is defined as the demand relationship.

Supply is defined as the total quantity of a product or service that the marketplace can offer.  The quantity supplied is the amount of a product/service that suppliers are willing to supply at a given price.  This relationship between price and the ammount of a good/service supplied is known as the supplyrelationship.

When thinking about demand and supply together, the supply relationship and demand relationship basically mirror each other at equilibrium.   At equilibrium, the quantity supplied and quantity demanded intersect and are equal.

that's why I paid R150 for a giant hanger and R560 for a silverback hanger. not only about the bike being a premium brand or not.

Yes. That it is. Carry on.

The problem is that hanger is CNC machined in the US vs being stamped in Taiwan or China.

Its like wanting to pay R400/hr labour to service your Ferrari.

If you think that's expensive wait till you need to replace one of these.

I found your problem there. Boutique brands will always cost a fortune. And the shop has to make their 100% margin too.

Broke my old Mongoose hanger the other day, agents had one for R600, Solomons for R120 and Aliexpress for 2USD (R24 inclu postaged). So I bought the Solomons one and the Aliexpress one.

I think it is a rip off. I think R100 to R200 is a decent price range for this type of spare.

Paid R700 for my hanger on my GT, and there was only one available in SA. The guys from giant cycle got it directly from omnico and didn't even charge me for it. So not all shop try and shaft you.

Had to get it for my new 1x11 conversion so Im ok with it.
