Hey guys

I just wanted to get some info and perspective.

This is my first MTB race i am doing. I am very excited. Ready to get broken...

I picked up my board today. The thing is MASSIVE!!! i am not a negative nancy and one who moans about small things but is the board normally this big??? its twice the size it can hardly fit infront with the cables there. I presume we are not allowed to trim the board hey...

Are all boards for MTB races this big??

Regards Eric

I haven't see the board for this event, but often they are about 180mm X 100mm there or there about

They don't want you to cut the boards, one of the reasons that the chip is stuck on top of the board, and it won't work if you damage it.

But yeah they are the size of a large number of mtb race boards, which gets used for easy identification (be that for the camera crew, or from a marshal perspective)

Can't you cut the cables to make it fit :whistling:

In any case, the brakes just slow you down

This may sound like a daft question.

I was lucky enough to pick up a free ticket for the 60km race, just had to pay the substitution fee only (thanks Shaun for that).

I noticed on his letter he scanned he was in group EL, I looked in the pack and I see I have a C sticker so would I be right in assuming I am in start group CL now, going off at 7.20.

Thanks

Disastrous race for me. I must have some medical condition that I need to take action on (need to go and see the doc) that developed the past year. As soon as it is hot (30 deg +), I start to really struggle. I start getting dizzy, nauseous and it feels as if my body loses all its power.

It was quite hot, but not that hot, today. Also extremely dusty.

That was a nightmare - tapped "uitspan farm" into google, saw it was next to the R44 and went there. Just me and 3 other bewildered looking okes saying WTF and giving each other worried looks.

Broke all my rules about speeding to get to Le Bonheur and the real Uitspan farm - mercifully missing the A batch start (which psychotic actuarial science dropout looked at my MTB results and said - let's put this Mamil in A batch - what's that? He ordered a 3XL shirt too? No matter). Note to organisers - on a good day I will finish in the middle of C -- on a bad day like today I might just stop in the middle.

Anyway - insomnia struck last night so felt bleary eyed at the back of B bunch where I stayed for the first 20k or so. Then really started to suffer.and continued to suffer and then it got worse and then worse again and then it was a battle not to take the shorter route turns and then it came to an end.

Sand and heat - two of my least favourite things.

See you all next year.

Awesome ride. I use that word and not race because despite starting in A I took it easy and enjoyed it. Good to see a few other people riding there and back on their bike, for me it's only 12km but I saw some people on Bottelary road riding back home and that is rather impressive.

The route (60km) was perfect, lots of dust as is the norm. Although my pet peeve again, some people need to upgrade to flat pedals and not stop and unclip on the tight turns and rough climbs that are actually rideable. Cleats belong on the tar.

I honestly think the real challenge would be to shower within the 2-min city limit.

Just joking, it was a enjoyable day of riding some great trails, learning about faith (when you on a single track and can see F0k0/), trying a new dish called dust, friendly fellow riders (with not to many wannabe racing snakes pushing guys off the track), etc.

About the new race village afterwards, cant really comment as we left soon after finishing, I understand their point to move it there just not as inviting as the previous years location.

Overall, glad I did the 60, and want to send a thank you out to all involved in thr organisation. Onwards to next weeks race.

PS something nice actually doing a race on saturday instead of sundays

I did the same went to the other uitspan farm!

Missed my start time, in fact nearly missed the final batch start. I was climbing under the barrier when the off was signaled. Last rider out for the 60km race! I don't think my heart rate recovered for the whole 60km!

Saw one of the leading bunches miss a turn off  just before the Muratie waterpoint.Signage a bit misleading causing them to go racing down the tar .Hope they found their way back.

Horrible day my side too. The race was great, my legs started cramping quite bad in the last 15km to get to the finish.

Then I get to my car and see someone jammed a screwdriver into my passenger door in an attempt to get into my car. Now I have to spend my whole week dealing with insurance and police case numbers and excess payments on insurance claims.
