Your preferred method of "Getting up in the mornings"??

There are two main schools of thought . . .

1) Set the alarm for the time you HAVE to get up, and when the alarm goes off - GET UP.

Pros: This gives you the MAX amount of sleep possible in the time allowed.

Cons: Can be a bit harsh first thing!

2) Set the alarm for a period of time BEFORE you have to get up, and enjoy the "Lay-in" before getting up.

Pros: You get to lay in before deciding to get up.

Cons: The Lay-in deprives you of some time you could have spent actually asleep.

Which works for you?

Get up when the alarm goes.

I find if i chill in bed it sort of sets the tone for dilly dallying and procrastinating.

I prefer getting up and getting ready and done, then if there is time left over before taking kids to school, i might read or take a slightly longer route to walk to school.

Except weekends, then my kids wake me at 5:30 to tell me random things.

Alarm has only awoken me 2 or 3 times in the last year .... always awake 15 to 45 minutes before the alarm is set to go off.

BUT, if I switch off the alarm I am awake 2 to 3 hours before the time, watching the time tick by .....  so the alarm is set, then snoozed just before I leave to work.

Who needs alarms when you have @!$%ng seagulls waking you up every morning at 5am.

Pros: No snooze option. The alarm just keeps on going.

Cons: @!$%ng seagulls

First option.

I also place my phone on my desk to force myself to stand up to turn the alarm off. I also don't have a snoozing option enable. The alarm sound is also important, I try to get my favourite song to play. This helps me get into a good mood haha.

Option two won't work for me, I will just fall asleep again.

I hate hate hate getting up early. Often questioning my love for cycling.

But the alarm needs to be as late as possible,so i can squeeze out every last minute.

And wake up in a panic and get up straight away, coz if I don’t, I ain’t getting up.

Having said that, I can get ready in 20/25min including breakfast & coffee and every else.

On the bike ready to go. Unlike my riding buddy who needs an hr to contemplate life before even getting of the edge of the bed.

I use the third option

set alarm for reasonable time

then turn off immediately after it goes off and then half asleep stressfully lay in bed till I'm proper late and then rush things to get ready ....going on 8 years now  :D

except when riding ...then I'm up 2/3 hours earlier than usual

Important stuff, I'm sure. :-)

I had a friend who's little boy used to wake him by pulling up his eye lids in the morning.

I don't use any alarm, if I oversleep then whatever it was I was suppose to wake up for wasn't meant to be.

On a serious note I have problems getting continuous sleep so I'm up almost every hour so I usually don't need an alarm. On those rare occasions I need to make sure I wake up then I let several people know to buzz my phone until I reply.

Pros - Asking people to wake me up gives me some semblance of a social life

Cons - None that I can think of

Alarm, wake up, contemplate whether I really need the early morning cycle/gym session, set alarm for 75mins later, wake up, snooze alarm two to three times, get up in a panic, leave late. Then exercise in the afternoon and vow to get up early the next day. Next day comes, rinse and repeat.

Except weekends when I can go for a ride, then I wake up waay too early and way before the alarm goes off.

KIds...

Pros: those little terrorists get you up no matter what.

Con: chances are that once they get you up they'll screw any chance of getting out of the door with a pincer movement leaving you standing at the second kids party of the day wondering how it's 1:30pm, you've been up for 9hrs and never turned a pedal.
