Shipping of items sold/bought in Classifieds

Has anybody else recently experienced a sharp decline in the service levels/speed of Postnet 2 Postnet? This service seems to be the shipment of choice for many (most) Hubbers who buy and sell in the classifieds. However, it has now been with 2 items that I have purchased and 1 item that I sold where shipping between JHB & CPT has taken more than a week. Previously it would have been 3 days which I found acceptable; in comparison, I sent a chainring to Howick with Aramex Dropbox in PnP and it was delivered the next morning. With my parcel that I sent to Durbanville from Sandton, I had a challenging time with my buyer who wanted to escalate things, give me a bad rating and rant on the Forum because according to him I was dishonest….. I sent him the receipts and the waybill numbers the same afternoon that I shipped his purchase and that was my only saving grace for not losing my rating.

What is particularly disappointing and perplexing is that Aramex from PnP and Postnet 2 Postnet is both R99.00 and the service is Aramex for both, therefore, irrespective who service that you use the parcel is moved by Aramex.

Has anybody used the DSV boxes at Engen garages?

Why do we have the “culture” as Hubbers to only want to use Postnet 2 Postnet?

If I sell something and have to deliver, I work for a living and tell the buyer that Ill only be able to get to Postnet on the Saturday.

If this is a problem, he is welcome to collect or not buy it from me at all.

Havent tried the DSV boxes, seen the big things you put the package into but not looked at the fine print and charges.

'Buyer to organise courier' doesn't mean 'chuck an extra 99 bucks on and make me drive to postnet/dhl etc... organise a courier, this is my address, otherwise you will get it when I am ABLE to get to said establishment.

Guys are quick to start telling you it isn't there fast enough but have done zero to organise their end of the bargain.

I generally find Aramex is ok, for anything big I swear by Atlas couriers. Full bike box R500 door to door cape town to Joburg and no longer than 48 hours.

only had good experiences with postnet so far ( sent well over 50 items in the last 2 years)

i always ask if the buyer is cool with them tho .... had one guy who preferred aramex  and I sent it to him that way

I use Postnet to Postnet quite a lot, mainly as a sender, and I haven't had problems thus far except a very grumpy lady who owns the Norwood branch which I try and avoid.

I use Postnet quite often and have had no problems.  Definitely my prefered method of shipping due to the conveniently located branches and friendly staff.

Use Postnet a lot, 2 to 3 parcels a month. Had no issues with them so far.Definitely my preferred shipping company. Second to them is Aramex

Have had no issue with postnet or with hubbers have sold to, just keep them in the loop and send them a picture of the waybill.

Maybe you should negatively rate the buyer who has no patience even though you sent him the waybill and he could have chased up with postnet for delivery rather than hassling you as it was out of your hands once handed over to postnet.... then we know who to avoid selling an item to !!

All depends where you sending them, some outlying areas takes a day or two longer but yes i have experienced a delay in times but only by a day or so.

For the same price you can use aramex shipping and its delivered to the door for R99

the dropoff boxes can be found at pick & pay, fresh stops and even some service stations.

Generally door to door with a decent courier is cheaper than Postnet. I'm not willing to take time out of my day to drive to Postnet - the hour of my time is worth more than 10 or 20 ZAR saving (if you're using an expensive courier).

I have used both and have had no problems , but have never sent to , nor received from outlying areas . only main city's .

Check with your Postnet what there collection times are. Never had an issue bar public holidays which extend delivery times or you could pay extra for weekend delivery. I would use Aramex for small items if goods value is minimal. I prefer the idea of handing my package to someone intead of dropping it in a box not knowing when they will collect.

I like postnet simply because its close to my office and normally quite efficient.

Generally though when I send an item Im selling then I use the company couriers or if buying something I offer to send a courier to collect from the seller.

I have experienced problems with Postnet at more than one branch.

Resorted to using Aramex (They own Postnet I am told) and have been very happy so far.  For the same price you get door to door delivery and sometimes the next day, depending on the time of handing in the parcel and location.

Postnet is also far from my office and is usually very busy with people wanting photocopies etc.

Courier companies in Durban are rip-offs and it is best to arrange with a courier from place of dispatch.

Aramex for the win, definitely!
