That's how it is being marketed and all the talk to take out the Steyn City climb when riders are tired and hot. All the major climbing happens in 1st half when riders fresh. Lots of downhill to recover before big sprint at finish. Which will make the last few small climbs much easier. Not sure where actual finish will be but could be an extremely fast sprint, with potentially a big bunch.

Why do you think it is easier?[/quote

In theory should be the same as same amount of climbing. But it is where the climbs are situated and the steepness can vary.

Does anyone remember the Star 100 which started and finished at Nasrec in 87 or 88?

I know Wyatt did this one

All the way around JHB and included going up Allens Nek

We finished in a huge storm with sleet and ice

I did a Star 100 one year... But I recall it started and ended at Eskom in Sunninghill...? I think this would have been around 1989/1990...

noticed how many more riders I saw going up Jan Smuts towards Braamfontein early this morning. People getting a feel for the new route already.

I reckon it's going to be tougher. I think the times will be slower. Those first few climbs is going to split up the groups and it will just be small groups all the way. I don't climb well and could always hang on with VA or racing tandems till at least witkoppen or cedar. Now I reckon I will still be dropped at a similar spot .

They should really focus on the climb on Jan Smuts from Conrad drive to Hyde Park corner.... that one coming after the climb from witkoppen to the top of Bryanston will be interesting  for the slower riders...

Been riding 947 since 2001 and every year it changes. I suck at climbing so having most of the climbs out the way earlier in the race will suit me, I have a better chance of wheelsucking passing groups on the flatter sections than trying to do this on the hills.

Still doesn't make it an easy, flat race as per your initial post?

It was a brilliant ride.

It was in October and the biggest storm in years hit with snow 2 meters deep in the berg

3 people died in the Cave at Mont Aux Sources snowed in.

I remember going down Ontdekkers in torrential rain and flooding and cars losing control when braking. The bike just carried on.By that stage I was so stuffed and cold I did not care

From the Lion Park over to Northumberland/Witkoppen on Malibongwe will be fast!

Just the bump at the bottom of Malibongwe and the block behind the design quarter (if they use that), to slow things up between the 2 downhills. The calm before the storm!
