Blew up on twitter over the weekend. Glad the rider survived with what looked like nasty rope burns across his neck.

It's unbelievable to what lengths certain people will go if they think they have been treated incorrectly.

Exactly!so they not happy with cyclists riding their so they attempt to decapitate them? I'm finding it hard to believe that they would resort to such disgusting measures over public space?

I cycled past on Saturday morning. It could have been me!

didn't realise iafrica was still alive!

here's the fb post, with pikshas, madness. The perp better be careful and if he's caught out, hope that the cops find him before the lynch mob does.

They are but they seem to run a few days behind the rest of the world. They're currently reporting that rescue operations for the Thai boys will resume on Monday....

Sadly we've had the same in the UK before. Fishing wire between trees.

I don't know if there has ever been a fatality, but certainly people have been injured.

We ride in the Benoni agricultural area between the small holdings and farms and have often had wire pulled between posts . Luckily its on the flat sections  and not on the down hill sections and have always been able to spot the wire . Dumping of rubble on a known track , single or Jeep track is also a common occurrence that catches us off guard  . The question we ask is WHY . We do not make a noise , tear the fields up or disturb wilstock .

Saw it on FB

Something rings a bell regarding the Glen.If I am not mistaken there have been previous incidents regarding users and residents as well some time ago.

Yes, the people living around the bottom area didnt like the fact that there were MTB'ers enjoying the land where they can have a leisurely stroll and allow their pets to defecate where ever they see fit. I think it was more a case of them defecating their pants when a MTB'er came past.

The Glen has a dark history for mountain biking.

I think this was possibly someone seeing an opportunity to maybe score a bicycle. There are lots of opportunists all over those mountains around Camps Bay to Cape Town.

I have seen pic's of a guy who has his lower jaw ripped off when he hit a wire on a MX bike!!!

Criminals have used a similar tactic on Victoria Drive in Schoenmakerskop, but it was copper wire spun across the road if I am remembering correctly.

If the guy was giving it his all and it cut an artery and died that would constitute murder?
Amazing that someone is willing to kill someone to save themselves the "hassle" of stepping off a path for 5 seconds to let another trail user past. :cursing:  :cursing:  :cursing:

A case could be made out for attempted murder. The report i read off Cape Talk's FB page was that SAPS refused to open a case. If they did they have broken the law. They are obliged to open a  docket in every case as far as I know.

This happens all over the world. Sharp stocks, wires, trail features dismantled or sabotaged. Don't try and ride your bike in Marin County USA  either. There is open hostility to MTB riders there.
