I did my PPL at Vanderbijlpark. Flew a bit out of Springs while I was still at school, and then was based at Stellenbosch for about 10 years.

Springs!!!!!! I did my apprenticeship there. There was a small AMO operating out of one of the hangers there.

Following on from Geomark. Had a conversation with an interesting character on Sunday. He told me about the bigger planes the ruskies have designed using ground swell. In googling I came across this.

Other than hovercraft, anyone been on one?

Not actually sure what Deborah's issue is.  From the clip, it seems like the crew handled the situation pretty well.  If there is smoke they do not have a clue where it originated from.  So they performed an emergency landing to the letter as they were trained to do.

I dunno but to me it sounds like the cabin crew were acting as they were trained and instructed? Also, the fact all the passengers are milling about with their carry-on luggage in tow tells me that the incident might be somewhat blown out of proportion by the musician. Perhaps she is trying to earn some extra publicity by the "fire" in the cockpit?

How about being grateful they were close enough to land to make a safe landing, and not somewhere in the middle of a transatlantic crossing when the fire erupted. We might have had another Helderberg on our hands.
