If I see you with that on your bike, I will point , laugh and judge you  because you are 100% a stupid pretentious sucker.

My name is Iwan if you'd like to call me first to make sure I take note of your pointing and laughing. Maybe just be specific as I sometimes ride in short socks and could confuse you for another sock purist

Lekker Crow. It even sounds pretty cool when shifting.

Most couples I know go on a week overseas holiday every year or every other year easily worth far more than this, nobody frowns upon that. In all honesty, this R32k groupset will give me more and longer pleasure than lying on a filthy Thailand beach for a week.

I agree, but it's more like 4 weeks  :D

Interesting perspective

Personally I would rather spend 5K on a decent group set + and still do the filthy Thailand beach  :P

Before I get called a hater I fully support the right of rich people to blow their money as they like

but as a middle class cyclist the idea of paying the a price of a decent mid-range bike for just a group set is a bit of a mind-f%^& for me

I feel you should stop going to Phi Phi and Patong then. . .

And just how are you going to test all of  this that you claim it can do....??

I agree tech is amazing and yes it will seve its purpose.

Funny enough I own a XX1 Eagle set that I got right here on the Bikehub for a fraction of the price....

But hey you do you

You can't say that after telling people you will point and laugh at them, it implies that you aren't bothere by what others do, but you clearly do. . .

Yeah, but if you prioritize a new groupset over a holiday you deserve some scorn.

Like every other hobby, it's all too easy to get caught up into owning the best/everything that will improve our experience, or excessively collecting stuff. It's an inherent humanoid flaw.

It’s all relative.6K more than a normal Eagle groupset of which every second bike has one now days without causing a stir on the trails.

If you look at top road disc groupset nowadays you looking at 50-60K just for the groupset.

Believe me most of the guys buying the groupset have got their early retirement sorted.

True. I also have an Eagle groupset. It sure does not cause a stir. But then, mine is NX. And there is a truck-load of price point difference between NX -> GX -> X01 -> XX1, and now this.

I am not judging anyone, as I am a weekend warrior at best, and will never need anything more. Per example, I was not willing to justify the 3k difference in price between NX and GX just for a 10t cog, instead of an 11t cog. And this excludes the need to replace my hub to XD Driver from the current Shimano, which fits NX no problem.

But hey, if you wanna blow a wad of cash to get the latest and greatest, then so be it. I am just curios what the replacement cost is when, 2000km later, LBS tells you the cassette, gear, chain ring and hub is shot, and needs replacing. Another 33k?

I'll pass, thanks.

Interesting perspective some people, mostly one, got about this new drivetrain.  I don’t think this new drivetrain was meant for you if you through a hissy fit about the price.  Clearly this was meant for pro riders that does not pay for it and those that can afford and want it.

Let’s take this closer to home and compare it to cars, we South Africans love to spend more than what we can afford on cars don’t we.  How many times do you point, laugh and judge people driving a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 around town?  Most people never take that vehicle on proper 4x4 routes or tour Africa with them but instead are used to take the kids to school, drive to the mall and park on the curb when parking is limited.  You do not a R1.4mil vehicle to do that, you could buy a 2x4 double cab bakkie to do that of if you need the space for your 7 kids you can buy a Combi.  So, spending R1.4mil on a vehicle where you could have spent only 30% of that for something that does the same job is fine? Is spending R32k on a drivetrain if you can afford it then so ludicrous?

If you haven’t reached the financial success to afford this then be happy with what you can afford but pointing and laughing at someone that did reach that financial success tells us a little more about you as a person than that of the person enjoying his new wireless shifting.

That is the one big issue for me - in my life putting 1000s of km's pa on my bike the groupset is a consumable. So even if I could scratch the money together once-off now I'll be screwed a year down the line.
