Soooo... Someone with a massive endurance engine will try his hands at running at an insane pace in 6 weeks time, after building said endurance in a non-impact loading sport like cycling....

I've seen this movie before... He is going to destroy his ligaments and joints. His lungs and heart will write Cheques that his legs can't Cash.... might not happen immediately but I predict somewhere during week two he will pull the plug.... Sitting with injuries that will take years to heal.

Let us rather wish him well. Go for it, I say, Paul. For every 1000 that reached out across the valleys from our caves and tried to slay the Tyrannosaurus to bring it back to feed the family, there must have been a few who succeeded. Let us rather cherish these few wondrous legends than mourn the hundreds who fell by the wayside buoyed by nought but their nought.

Assuming people aren't able to count to five is really insensitive, even if previous endeavours tend to highlight that possibility.

Again, as has been said in the Everesting discussion:

This oke is probably just posting these insane Challenges on his blog to boost his profile.

The more people discuss his attempts, whether it is good or bad, the more his profile grows organically. "No such thing as bad press coverage..."

He couldn't be bothered if he makes it or not, as long as people are talking about him.

He hasn't mentioned anywhere whether he has even attempted to do a 5km run and see what time he clocks. Which is what any reasonable individual would do before committing to this type of challenge.

I honestly think he has such a massive ego that he thinks he can do it

I recently met a few youngsters who were looking for jobs, mostly temporary student type jobs. I found it absolutely strange that they all were of the opinion that discussing work with a possible employer via Whatsapp was totally fine. Sticking a CV on an email with barely a cover letter was thought enough.

When I suggested phoning the owner of a business and arranging a meeting in person they thought I was speaking in tongues! They simply did not understand that "older" people still valued face to face contact and did not see the advantage of beconing a known face rather than an anonemous bit of data.

They have to learn fast because outside of the pure IT jobs, people still want to look you in the face, listen to your voice, and form an opinion withing 15 seconds.......that will get you the job or lose it!

Edit: Perhaps I should add that the most successful one by far was a young woman who simply went to talk to people......and could pick and choose jobs......perhaps looks got the through the door, but personality get her the job offers!

Edit edit: The next best one was a young guy who initially volunteered to work for nothing as a temporary intern........he got paid a little "lunch money" because they thought he was great and added value above what they expected.......but come the next holiday, the same business took him on as a properly paid worker!

Two week's ago I flew to Cpt to interview three prospective candidates. After landing, I received a salary demand or she was not coming to the interview. I thought it was cheeky, but perhaps fiesty, so I ignored it and drove 25km to the meeting place, which I selected to make it easier for her. 30 minutes before the agreed upon time, she sends me a WA stating, that she's no longer coming... Day two, I drive to the V&A for the second interview. 30 Minutes before the start time, I receive a message that he is at another interview, so can we re schedule.. Early morning on day three, I receive a message stating that he had car problems the night before and will no longer be coming to the interview.... Zero out of three. Miskien te lekka innie Kaap???

Flip thats just wrong, as a borderline millennial Ive seen it also... this instant instagramable life that just gets handed to you straight out of varsity followed by the moaning about how lifes unfair on twitter when its not. Fortunately there’s enough people who know that you get out what you put in... and sometimes you have to start at the bottom and work damn hard all the way up.

Lets just hope the trust fund or daddy’s credit card doesn’t run out for the rest of them otherwise they might see how the real world works[emoji79]

Boy have we been battling as well.

In the middle of an interview. As in we have met and talking, when it came to hours required to work, they simply got up and walked away and said no longer interested.

There are loads of jobs available, just a shortage of people willing to work.

At another interview when we offered any questions you have for us, the millennial asked us if we could explain why they should work for us. I was dumbfounded!

I have seen this all too often and it is absolutely unacceptable, despicable an disgusting.

Most of the students who came through our setup had this attitude.

Never worked before, fresh out of university and now they are big shots with a degree and the world now owes them........and we accept it.

Lets leave work ethics out of this as this is another issue.  Most students I despise intensely because of this.  Simply cannot understand it.

I am too old for this me, me mine attitude.

Most of what they have to learn we have forgotten about ages ago.

And then you get the eager, humble student who you nurture and they seem to go further faster in their field than those renegade students with attitude.

This is unfortunately, as someone who works with kids, not the kids fault - if it were, all of them would be the same, with few outliers, but that is not the case.

It may be stereotypical to suggest, but I don't think I would be too far wrong if I said that the cause/attributes of the attitude relate to:

- private school education (some of the good ones here are private schooled, almost all of the public school ones are

- have parents that are well to do, but more importantly have well-to-do, absent parents who are continually striving for more. In some ways, I actually think the rebellion against work hours is a good thing, as work-life balance for us older folk did get out of hand over the years. Like everything though, it has swung too far.

- obviously, social media. The fragility of their psyche's is insane. I really feel sorry for them, and to a degree they have been nannied to death by society, AND isolated electronically.

- their parents are either useless or soft, gentle people who I guess you could call harmless. Some of the biggest pains in the arse are kids of the most awesome people who would do anything to help you.

Just think when we are grandparents age, there will be a generation of post-beatnik, cocaine using, workaholics like in the 80's again. Swings and roundabouts...
