Which shoes to wear? The very stiff but difficult to walk in ones or the cheaper more flexible but easier to walk in ...

Flats or heels!!!???... i swear cycling is turning me into a chick. Colour coordinated outfits ... matching gloves .... shaved legs ...

I cannot do it this year . I'm a back marker with serious withdrawal symptoms.

I'm sure you guys and girls all have your rituals before the race.

We go down  on a Thursday, stay in Grootbrak. The Friday is "my" day . So we normally go to Calitzdorp , visit Grundheim , De Krans and Boplaas . Then off to Oudtshoorn for number collection and coffee and cake on the stoep of the Queens hotel. We head home past the Chandelier start via George.

The evening it's the pre race rituals . Saturday morning before five the wife drives me back to the start . I get dropped off on the gravel. Rusk and coffee for twenty rand, and into the chute for small talk and butterflies.

I hope you all have a safe good race.

And more or less the same predicted for tomorrow with a strengthening head wind driving it.

Walking shoes at the foot of my bed. Fancy carbon soled ones stowed in bag.
