So your time will start, just like all the other years.. when you cross the matts ....

will believe that when I see it.

you race time has never started when you cross the fiorst matt, it has always started when the gun fires signaling the start of your seeded group.

Hence with this new start procedure you don't want to rush across the line but you want to hang with the group.

I think the line up on the mat should be bike specific so the better riders can get a better time e.g.

1. First on the mat should be Specialised bikes - well, because they special

2. Second line is all the Italian brands like Pina, Bianchi etc, because they paid a lot of money for those bikes

3. Any french bike because of Julien and finishing on a french bike is an achievement in itself

4. Then all the Scott, cannondale riders. Those guys would really like a chance at winning sometime

5. I'm putting Canyon on the fith row because they have so much potential

6. This row is for Merida, Fuji etc. Those bikes are like redneck cousins who should'nt really be on the same road at the same time as the others but we cant really exclude them.

7. BMC because they Swiss and are neutral. They should not be racing but sweep at the back.

Any other brand should be among the MTB riders. Good luck to them.

Good luck to all. Hope you all cross that mat safely

Putting the Canyon that far back is placing the rider at risk of toptube failure...#semanet

ok.. gona try and do this one more time.  i'm obviosuly not explaining myself properly..  dalk moet ek die taal praat?

i KNOW its always been gun to mat.  BUT they always advertised it that its neutral zone, then when you cross the matt, then timting start. this was said many times in the FB family meetings and caused confusion many times (was even discussed on bikehub before (I did qoute the thread somewhere).

My only comment was .. in "sarcastic font" (that noone for some reason can see) is that..    They advertising it yet again as mat to mat, but in most likely it will be gun to mat again.

I can't believe this weather... we haven't had a day like this in forever ! Makes me consider a second loop, has anyone seen anything about it ? I heard in the previous years you could pay a little extra to go for a second loop ?

Even statisticians think weather forecasts are lies...

For those that have done the substitution process. Does the original rider just need to release their entry on the CTCT entry portal and then provide a letter to the new rider who hands that in at the expo?

A bit confused about whether the new 'starting flow' will be vc19 safer.

This year, the Start times are given as the Transition release time. You need to start accumulating in your Transition area -Plan to arrive at your Transition Area no more than10 min before your transition release time,  - and will  then be released into a "rolling start".

You will be released from your Transition area (within 10 min from arriving) So, no more 1 hour waiting in your cage.   (and then just continue on a rolling start. i.e. no gun ? at start line, gun is effectively at the Transition release time, but timing only starts at crossing the mat.)

Ok so far, the idea is to prevent gatherings (200-500 riders) for an hour in start cage.  - But, to prevent being late at race starts, everyone tries to get to their start time 'a bit earlier'  (and now only a small 10 minute window - not 1 hour +) and as we know from experience at races, most riders want to be early/front in their start groups.  On top of that, the X, Y, Z etc. guys are always there early and right in everyone's way. So, will we have a 18,000 (?) rider/bicycle traffic jam near cage entry points ?  Further, will this bicycle congestion on the approach roads, let 300 (18,000/61groups) (?) guys get to their cages on time, and can the flow be fast enough to let organisers at the gates check numbers etc of all 300 (?) riders in 10 minutes ? (1 every 2 seconds).

Thinking about this makes one more anxious about being on time for your '10min window time' - so will we be there (in the jam) even earlier !

this is cape town, that weather forecast is still 5 days out, by the time sunday rolls around there could be gale force winds pushing through :)

That is true but it's unlikely. This is purely anecdotal but I've noticed a massive improvement in the accuracy of sites like windguru (my go to) over the last 2-3 years.

Weather is looking perfect for the guys to come out with the deep dish wheels, 50, 60, 80mm, take advantage of the good weather predicted????

Forecasts have objectively improved over the last few years.
