I just noticed this in the seeding email:

Quote

A complimentary, re-usable timing chip will be provided in your race pack, that is linked to your entry profile and race number. Keep your chip, it will be required at future SAS Road / Ride Joburg events and will be charged for at future events.

So no more Racetec for 947? That's a surprise!

I'm confused. Is there or there not any race pack collection for the MTB event? Looks like there isn't? Only requirement is to have an SAS board? So where does one get the batch sticker thing? At the entrance? Comms are not very clear.

And one more thing. So they'll have this Biogen stuff at the waterpoints (I can't tol;erate it). Will there be plain water too?

I agree, communication has not been very good.  I still haven't received an official email giving me batch details, the only reason I know is from the link to the list that someone provided earlier on in this thread.

Cost could be a factor; from experience dealing with more than one timing company and race office.
Not sure if there are any "close ties" between the current selected vendors.

For Road

You will be able to send someone to collect on your behalf as long as you have fulfilled the requirements below:

* You have completed the medical questionnaire and booked your Expo timeslot.

* Person collecting on your behalf will be required to:

* Present your unique QR code (sent to you via email once you have completed the medical questionnaire and booked a timeslot).

* Present a copy of your ID

* Present valid proof of your vaccination OR proof of your negative PCR or rapid antigen test taken 72hrs prior to the race in order to collect your pack.

*Accepted vaccinations are those as approved by the South African Government of which: A person provides a vaccination certificate indicating that the date of the first vaccination is more than 28 days prior to the event (if J&J) or the second vaccination had been obtained more than 7 days prior to the event (if Pfizer).

I would suggest you send someone who is entered in the race as everyone needing access to the Expo will require their own proof of vaccination / negative Covid-19 test.

There will be more detail in the weeks leading up to the event regarding the above.

Personally I think both options are fine right now in SA. It is not about being foolproof, but rather playing the odds. If someone wants to go forge a vaccination certificate then so be it. The organizers need to comply with regulations within reason to be able to get authorization from authorities for the event to proceed. I don't think they will be overly fussy with regards to what form of proof you produce.

I'm still considering a late entry, but I don't see any option on the website. Anybody know if it is an option this year?

What if you received you vaccinations in the uk. Have a NHS vaccination card with dates and batch numbers etc. Hope they accept this,if not ,doubt I will bothered much.

Trying to arrange any race in the current situation must be logistically hard. Hopefully they have enough hands to make it work.

they sounded relieved to get someone nice on the phone.

I do not think people fully understand the situation and to get upset not going to help much and they seem to be taking the brunt of it

my hats of to them
