I guess if you can’t win against the pure sprinters then go on a solo attack should do the trick πŸ™ŒπŸ»

"I didn't want to take the risk anymore," Wout van Aert said about avoiding a bunch sprint finish.

"We were in a perfect position thanks to Nathan and Stevie. Tiesj took over and in the wheel it was already super hard. The goal was to go full to the top and see what happened.

"By going full I also put the others in a good position so they didn't have to ride. Then it was just 10km of all out suffering."

That attack blew everyone to smithereens so there was little hope for the Pure Sprinters to survive, if it was a more sedate climb with the bunch cresting together I think everyone would've survived over the top. Only Ineos seems to have anticipated it but there was little they could do about it.

Got it, I’ll shut it.  😊 Β Can’t imagine why a discussion about a TdF team would get this thread shut down, surely not in this dimension or on this planet... Β Zip.

- a cycling obsessed currently unemployed half-retiree with clearly too much time on his hands

I think it’s a worthwhile discussion because social responsibility is something many corporates and governments use to obscure their wrong doing. On balance they claim to do good, meanwhile…

It’s a discussion that should’ve framed carefully and mange’s within the boundaries becssue as I mentioned earlier, many many good things in this world have roots in in some unpalatable practices or regimes. E.g, nazi technology sent men to the moon, provided advanced in medical technology. So ya something to ponder

TT, Sprint, Prologue, Sprint, Sprint, Solo

Come on nerds, what is the sum total of this margins of victory or loss?

Without going to the actual results sheets, just by memory:

Stage 20 - 2021: +10s?

Stage 21 - 2021: +0s

Stage 1 - 2022: -4s?

Stage 2 - 2022: -0s

Stage 3 - 2022: -0s

Stage 4 - 2022: +8s?

So NET margin, in time, over the last 6 stages: +14s? (Discounting the Bonus seconds)

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.Β

If Yates, the Dane and Wout escaped together, woulda better chase have been organised by UAE and other GC-based teams to limit the time damage by the escaping trio? We will never know. The audacity and sheer class of the Belgian, resplendid in a yellow skinsuit, to go solo like that must be one of the coolest attacks by the maillot jaune, ever. Gotta love the custom S-Phyres too.Β

Brilliant last 10km, I had to flip a coin i whether it would be Wout or Mat making that move. Got it wrong but oh my word what an attack. The ferocity of that effort leaving even Wyngaard in his wake, legendary de. Thomas was definitely doubting himself before doubt won.Β
Todays stage is not going to be fireworks, it’s Β a full box of dynamite with the fuze lit

Wyngaard as in Jonas?

I recon he was just covering Yates and Stoute Woute was always gunning for win in yellow.

I def cant see UAE and poggie chilling wheels today. Going to be lit!
