I tell you what Ace, why not meet me there on the weekend and help me pick it all up.

That way you can support your local organiser before he gets bashed further and be constructive.

If you're keen I'll bring the black bags. Yes?

I would love to know which landowner said to an organiser - yes, please let a few hundred people just throw their trash out on my verge this weekend as long as it is in one spot.

Honestly, litter zone or not. You have to be real special to think throwing a wrapper onto the side of the road in a world heritage site is a viable option. It can go into your pocket till you find a bin, not rocket science. Nothing to do with the organisers, just the actual human beings on the bicycles. How much of an inconvenience is carrying a 5gram wrapper to the bin at the water point or finish line?

Agreed, so easy to carry your own rubbish

Why would one first have to contact the organisers before going to social media.

The organisers arranged the event, made a profit off the event and created a "litter zone".
The organisers are responsible for the event, and the state of that they would leave surrounding area they held the event it.

Go straight to social media and shame them, next time they will go over the site before leaving to make sure all is in good order.

Just chatted to one of the Cradle Management people and they will contact race organiser to clean up.

As an aside, I used to be involved with the 947 via Harford Sports - the team manning a point on the route not "tidying up" is a no-no and so easy to manage.

Agree that it's simple to stash your wrappers in another pocket, that's why they are there. It was only 90 odd km, how much can you eat in that time? 😁

Nope. this is 100% from the Monte Race.

i think regardless of if OP contacted the organisers - this deserves to be in the spotlight just for how little care the organisers have.

if anything its worth pointing the organisers over to these threads via twitter, facebook, instagram etc to ensure they actually do something about it

Your comment just shows me that you dont know Lenie at all. Her passion, her sacrifice and everything she does for the sport that we all love

Regarding Gel wrappers.

I used to hate putting the empty wrappers in my pockets as they would often leak. But did so anyway.

But lately I've been using a locally produced energy gel that you decant into a small sippy bottle and take little sips during your ride.

so much better, no more sticky fingers etc. and no wrappers to discard. Would be great if more nutrition manufacturers go this route.

Personally, I can't see that Lenie was aware that the litter zone was left in that state. It's a big event and a lot goes into planning and organization, so it's very easy to miss something.

We all want more races, but publicly shaming race organisers is not constructive. We should support them as we want to same things. Bigger, better, safer events

If you are running a business, you make sure you deliver and make sure you close off the event in a professional manner.

You want more events, then we should also make sure organisers are held responsible.

I do that with the jugs of hammer gel which I have some kind of weird psychological dependence on ... They come with handy little bottles. Which local brand do you use?

There is also a professional manner in which to address complaints to ensure that the matter gets resolved.

I'd rather celebrate an extremely successful, 3000 rider event than shame them publicly over one small oversight

Why not? As the organiser, when you specifically arrange for a zone for everyone to dump litter, would not one of your tasks post-race be to ensure that it is cleaned up?

I am not bashing the event or organiser in anyway, the race was fantastic and I will be back next year, I am just concerned about the future viability of it if this is the main theme that has come out of the race. You are only as strong as your weakest link.

As an aside, and I am not aware of the answer, but CTCT has a chuck zone just before Chappies for instance, I don't recall ever seeing rubbish there after the race? I am in no way saying these two races are the same size, or level, but the idea remains the same.

It was obviously an oversight, or are you saying that they had no intention to pick it up? Because that would just be ridiculous

Definitely didn't say it was intentional, as you said that would be ridiculous.

Agree it was an oversight, just saying that an oversight does not absolve you of responsibility.
