Van der Stel pass - Bot river to Theewaters

AND WE HAVE A WINNER!

It was super nice to finally meet the fellow Bike Hubber Mamil.

I struggled a bit on those roads because I was on an old school cross bike with cantilever brakes and 3.5bar tyres (running tubes).

But hey, it was great fun! The downhill was a bit scary and I got a pinch flat on one section.

Were you the big group of riders going towards Bot River?

100% correct - we were Team MTB Goats in the blue.

I am a full roadie, so I took along my cyclocross bike and did a bike change before the gravel sections.

You can see our routes here:

Day One

Day Two

Was a super nice adventure and I want to upgrade the cyclocross bike to make it more enjoyable for the next trip.

Yip I passed your group going the opposite way.

I did it on a gravel bike and must way those roads are made for gravel riding.

See my route

What's Buffelsdrift like? I'm keen to give it a spin but its a bit of a drive so don't want to waste it.

Probably the best trail in Gauteng that I have experienced

ugh my bike has taken me around my farm and to carry heavy buckets of feed for the wildlife. :nuke:  its all fun until you have to ride across the property where there is lots of climbing and deep sand.
