Rapha500 ride #1

That's a reasonable chunk of the challenge done on day 1.

I was looking for others doing it here on the Hub (to possibly join) but seems it's pretty low key this year.

IDT crossed my mind but that would just be torture. LOL

I’m traveling to the WP on Monday, so I lose two days of riding. I’ve planned another two similar rides on Saturday and Sunday (weather permitting) leaving me with 80Km for the 30th and 31st. Make that 50Km, as I have a 33Km ride on Rouvy planned for tomorrow.

Need to ride sometime this weekend.

Been two weeks of the bike between work, kids a d the rain.

Road here resembles a mudbath at the moment.

In a world of sleek black aero bikes be a bold red beast!

As an aside I'd say Rapha need to up that target ... most people finish it in a couple of days, some aiming for 700-1000k's I've seen

I think this year and the target is largely influenced by potential lockdowns across the world.

500km on the IDT is a completely different challenge I recon.

Also consider 500km outdoors in a Northern Hemisphere winter ...

Will not get anywhere close to festive 500 numbers. But we’re riding nonetheless.

This afternoon we rode the infamous karkloof. What an awesome place.

Torn between stopping and trying to capture everything on camera, and riding the trails as best you can.

A couple of snaps.

The sections in between snaps, were really fun to ride.

Somewhere down here there is a trail. By far the best part for me.

Entering the Protea corridor another rider was leading the way ... PERFECT weather !

And then we saw the approaching cold front ....

We enjoyed the Bloemendal trails together, then parted ways  (damn, this lady can CLIMB those hills !)

By the time I got to Upper Bloemendal the cold front was already moving in, and the views were simply breath taking.

Yes, 2020 sometimes felt like one mother of a climb .... thankfully my bike and these lovely trails helped to keep me sane (sort of..).

Happy to still be climbing.

Remembering those who were less fortunate and their families, particularly today.

Still a long way from cresting 2020, but we'll keep slogging away.

Jip, a few more months ...

Still we are the lucky ones.

My hart goes out to friends who lost loved ones this year.
