At what point is "name & shame" acceptable on BH?

Good day all.

I am resurrecting an old thread as I am still not sure whether the correct thing to do would be to name and shame...

A month ago I bought an item from a named individual (with fairly good BH ratings) who is also affiliated with a shop. Sounds familiar?

The item I bought is very hard to come by and actually a combo set of 2 items of which both is almost impossible to substitute and still work as a set. It was being sold at a VERY good price, which in hindsight should have raised some red flags. At that price it also seemed unnecessary to go down the BH Pay route.

When the package arrived, one of the items was swapped out with a cheaper, similar, but incompatible item from another brand, rendering the whole set and reason I bought it useless. I immediately contacted the seller to inform them about the "mishap" and I was assured that it was an honest mistake made by an employee and that the correct original item would be shipped to me ASAP. I even offered to return the mistakenly sent item, considering this to be the right thing to do. I followed up 3 days later to then receive apologies and assurance it would be done the next day. Granted, I received a photo of a tracking number for a PUDO shipment the next day, but it eventually transpired that the item would never be shipped and the tracking number expired. Since then I was only met with radio silence from a BH message point of view, and all of my phone calls remained unanswered.

Part of me was worried that the person was seriously ill as one of the initial excuses was that of being sick, but the fact that numerous (positive) transaction reviews were left for the seller since our last correspondence and they were last active on BH yesterday, made me believe that my concerns were unnecessary.

So, despite this person having so many positive reviews, it really pee's me off that somehow it is OK to scam me and get away with it.

Name and shame/mob with pitchforks time? Or does every seller on the Hub have a number of scams you can get away with?

BTW I also reported this individual to admin (but have not received any kind of confirmation or reply)...

Nah ......... not yet Friday 😵

Shall I wait for feedback and let the pot simmer towards boiling point over the next few days?

Everybody and their dogs would have the pitchforks lubed, tar tempered and feathers ruffled for the great reveal (or not) on Friday...

You might as well just name them, since it's obvious from your ratings who the culprit is.

Never a good idea to let issues simmer. The Friday thing is tradition on the forums and I tossed it in the mix as a "stab" at the satirical side of every esteemed hubber.

Stupid Fridays has had us all in stitches so many times.

If there is a real problem in this case, don't spare the forks.

"Name & shame" does however have the potential to go south at speed, shutting all escape routes while backfiring big time.

Yes, while naming and shaming can occasionally go south, many buyer-seller issues have been resolved in the forums. My deciding factor would be that after numerous attempts to resolve the issue, the seller proceeded to send a fake PUDO waybill instead of simply saying, "Sorry, I messed up, and I will refund you."

Agreed on this.

Many times the "seller" thinks they have gotten away with it until their name appears on here then only all of a sudden do they want to fix the "mistake", If they don't end up on here, They just let it play out and hope it "goes away". But as you stated the mere fact that a FAKE P.O.P was sent was a clear indication that A - it was never going to be sent or B - to "buy themselves some time" to source what what they initially listed for sale, and that right there would've ended any and all amicable communication between myself and the seller and I would have exposed them to atleast warn all others for the future no matter what the "reason" is.
