well that's not some average dude coming from 1D, he probably would have been in the $ batch if he wanted to. Looks like he pulled two more along the way, kudos to them for hanging on to the beeftrain.

Some people take their Argus finish SERIOUSLY, and if you're going to have seeding from races then it's not that hard to police it. If someone jumps ahead of their batch, the software will pick it up, just annul their result. even disqualify them. Make a scene and you will be able to stamp it out.

Comrades takes this pretty seriously, it does of course have qualifiers that get ratified by your club. It is VERY embarrassing for the club to have a cheater exposed.

Last Feb 2024, they said there is ZERO tolerance and we're serious about it.  Did a bit of a cleanup, and banned 58 people for transgressions. Going on memory, I think they even gave you a window to withdraw before they named and shamed your ass so there was probably more initially fingered..

https://www.sabcsport.com/news/comrades-marathon-association-refunds-cheating-runners-due-to-fraudulent-information

Then after the race, they got some tip offs. Some people got notice, those that didn't follow it got publicly named and shamed, don't come back next year!

Argus has had similar issues, the Liss story early 2000s involved the ladies race winner not doing the full course. They also got very excited by a Borat outfit.

I don't think they've ever done anything about batch jumping, or falsifying seeding going into the race. Moving from strict qualifying events only seeding to the whole season index has improved the quality of the batches as it rewards more recent performnce. It used to be that finishing in the top80% of your batch was enough wheelsucking to keep your start group for 2 years.

The Ebike thing seems to have calmed down a bit, and the 3:50 is clearly the stick they use. This sort of thing is never going to be able to be policed, but on the road every knows you're a (read the shirt). Dad on his ebike dragging the kids up the hill, they weren't even pedalling. This is suikerbossie and after the new battery did the business up chappies first.

These guys who won finished in 4 hours that's next level after them was a Ebike team at 4h35 I think.

But it's all in good spirits and fun for the children.

Chaeli and her beefcakes (not artificially aspirated) came in at 4:18, they burnt alot of matches early but we made up for it with 2 restorative malted beverage stops.

Well done to them as well, glad top 2 teams was normally aspirated 😂

We are planning next year's ride already. Some changes to the buggy for a little less wind resistance without compromising the safety for the little warrior inside.

This will be on me so I'm thinking to "auction" off the bar used on the buggy this year and use those funds to improve it for next year. Glad I added it last minute because it made it so much easier to push the buggy.

We want to get closer to the Ebike powered/supported buggies. 😁

I am honestly not sure is it the black aluminum one or the one Lazer cut one? Would you mind sharing a photo.

We are not looking to race that's not us at all, just want to make it more enjoyable for everyone and if we go faster awesome. 😊

Carbon tub built by Black Comp. I’ll ask his dad for pics

I've seen the carbon tub of the winners. Think the father/pilot is Mark correct me if I'm wrong.

Pilot/horse is Brett Chilcott. Black Composites guys did amazing work, had to lengthen it a few years ago as well (Davey has gotten bigger over the last 12 years as it turns out).

The biggest upgrade was actually the connector onto the bike, created a better and more secure connection.

I'd like to have a look at the connection. We made a couple of the "tow hooks" for the bikes. There's always room for improvement.

No worries, will ask them for a few close up pics

I hate to break it to you, but having been part of the winning buggy team, we were not at any point in time assisted by any e-bike.

We received many offers, but all were politely declined.

We just wanted it more 😉

Congrats on a race well run 👍

Pretty sure @Me rida my bicycle will take any assistance, just to finish.

He has done the short route twice, with the buggy.  This was his first long route.

They are MTB'ers doing this just for the cause.

This oke is a peter oliver eating sweets.. I refuse to promote him in any way (now watch how many clicks he get as curious cats click to see what the fuss is about)

Yeah I hear you and great points raised. Cycletour brings its own mentality to the cycling dynamic. I didn't coin it the fun Ride World Champs something like 21 years ago for nothing. Its the day when dreams, sacrifice, bar room bets and long held personal rivalries are all stewed in a pot called Capriccio Italien for 30secs and then released with a thunder clap. In an instant all that energy is released faster than a runaway nuclear reaction.

The first hour is all about surviving - avoiding crashes often caused by over exuberant riders flying into disappearing gaps or wanting to switch peloton lanes as they do in zwift  forgetting the rider they just passed hasn't disappeared.

On the overlapping wheels. I hear this advice all the time but its really only applicable when you're out riding with your mates in single file...........

In a peloton environment overlapping wheels is just what is happening as a result of penning 250 sheeples together and everyone wants to be at the front but nobody wants to be at the front. By it nature, wheel shave to overlap as it is impossible to string out 250 rider single file a much a neighbour keeps asking why you don't.

What you have not mentioned is the aspect of "holding your line"...lets talk about that one a bit

Few seem to understand what this means. A bicycle by its pedaled two wheeled nature is virtually impossible to hold in a perfectly straight line for very long , especially when its a nervous full blooded race machine design to used with a  long slammed stem but instead is equipped with a viagra assisted 80mm 25degree stem raising the bar to allow its pedaler to power it without breaking their back. Holding a line means maintaining your position relative to the riders in front of you and on either side. Side none of us have eyes in the back of the head, the rider behind must keep clear and follow. Unpredictable behaviour like switching is not cool and whoever does this deserves a stern talking to. Dive bombing a corner when the rider in front of you have committed to their line is also dangerous and p*ss poor manners.

<note to dim wit in red cheeohveetah top> Yes Mr. Balie D88s-Works your stupid dive bomb at Sea Point circle was just poor character. You nearly put me and 5 others riders in the steel barrier. Then you're so over enthusiastic you take the next traffic circle too fast, loose the back wheel, drop a chain and drift into 3 more riders, ruining their run into the pavillion. Stay on the couch please. Bly by de v*kk*n huis if you want to bring that attitude. ,<rant over>

I have this theory about the Zwifters (or take your pick of indoor poison) and Wattbikers .... Often very strong but no or very little bunch/race skills

But don't mind me, just the opinion of a 'timer 🙄

This cheating thing is really getting my goat. Was in 5A, start of Smits I ‘catch up’ to someone with an 8E number - by that time we haven’t even seen the fastest 7-group riders coming through, and this oke was riding my pace…

Not sure if its this guy (2:57 from 8E), but start time seems to suggest so (4F start time).

@Tiny K we wanna see your stats as well.. must be 375W NP, right?

Nah, NP 323W. Really chilled in @, especially taking Coach Johan's advice and chilling in the bunch. Took a stab at the front between Red Hill and Scarborough, but nobody interested.

The fireworks only started up Chappies and Suikerbossie.
