I do know the area. And I'm aware that alternatives don't really exist. That then makes the argument that cycling to town is a foolish endeavour. I mean, ride it if you insist, but crying about being robbed is pointless. I know I sound unsympathetic, but it seems that people are taking unnecessary risk when they really ought to know better.

True enough for those with options.

Some commuters are really stuffed by our non existant law enforcement.

PS - are there safe bike parking at Mi.Citi points ?  Having been the donor for redistribution, twice, at train stations I do feel sorry for the commuters with limited options.

Because there is no option to get across the N1 and railway.

You clearly don't know the area if you say that

Saying there is no other option is not true. Other options have been communicated on here already.  Koeberg, cannon, Berkley being one since the road opened into obz. That gives you a few options going into town too. Navigating the bit from parden island over the interchange will be a faf sure, but no more dangerous than navigating marine drive onto the ‘highway’ in peak traffic and past that **** show.

But i mean hey, if the extra effort and few extra km is not worth it….🤷🏻‍♂️

Sorry to hear about this

What time was this?
i assume you too were coming from Tableview side?
Have there been reports on issues for those coming from town via N1 going to the southern suburbs or vice versa?

or is it just from the paarden eiland

Other way - trying to get to the port.

Going across Koeburg interchange is near impossible and the big junction in town is a death trap with taxis.

This is the way in - it is supposed to be a public road and its not that long. It should be easy to make it safe

Please make sure to send an email to liz@pedalpower.org.za. with the SAPS case number and a clear explanation of what transpired.

Done on the day - she is fighting hard on this one

You can take your bicycle along on the bus, on the condition that there is space available on the bus which might be somewhat difficult during peak hours. And if 2 people climb on the bus with bicycles it will be full 😂 Safe spaces to park your bike at the stations - nope, does not exist.

Have you ever tried it? I have, using the road in the past & recently using the sidewalk sharing with pedestrians just some patience required, a light & bell will help both users go a long way.

Not to mention during school days there is actually a ‘pad patrollie’ helping at the turn-offs

It's a tough one but I definitely feel that it is important to keep using public spaces for walking running and riding otherwise we yield even more space to the cars and criminals and that's not good.

This doesn't mean I'm going to ride through Woodstock n1 until the current spasm of nonsense has passed but it does mean that I'm going to be on my bike, owning a lane somewhere.

That's why milkys routes are important and why giving feedback on these pie in the sky city initiatives and promises and egging the authorities and PPA on is essential.

Do you know what is required to obtain a permit?

Near impossible at least for a proper pass. I have one as I work there but that is a few years old and I have been told if I lose that Transnet won't replace it.

But it would not help much anyway: you still stay the one side of the railway/N1 and often it is nothing short of terrifying with the trucks there

Do you mind posting a high resolution photo of the permit, front & back, I just want to show "a friend" that works in a printing shop what it looks like 👀😝

Id be willing to help out by enhancing it digitally while also showing you what it could have looked like with your photo and ID number on there👀

Might have to ask for the dimensions, just to make sure your friend truly grasps the artistic marvel he is looking at .....

Please can you try and draw a line of Google Maps showing how you get across? I have looked various times and cannot work out a way to get across from one side to the other. Berkley Road new bridge to Paarden Eiland?
