Like many others I used an old road bike on my indoor for those times I needed it, COVID, injury recovery etc. Had a mate that really needed a bike and so I let it go

Decided to build a 'minimalist' dedicated Indoor Trainer Bike (ja ja because I can 😜 ) .... So what's really needed, no brakes, 1* so only a right shifter and rear derailleur, a back wheel that works, a front wheel that just holds the bike up ... Any old frame

Got hold of a KHS alu Flite 700 ca 2006 I guess, no hanger, got the closest possible from my trusty mate @GrahamW (jeez the knowledge and bits that oke has 😮 ) and then on his recommendation 'grinded' away at it till it sort of fitted

Gears - 1*8 53*11-32 ... 9sp DA derailleur, did have to do the 'B screw backwards' hack though

Wheels

Rear - damaged on the brake surface, not safe on road but on a brakeless indoor bike 👍

Front - 24 hole tubby rim to 32 hole funky anodised hub, had a tubby tyre hanging about ... Quick build just good enough to hold the front up!

It's up and running no issues .... The chain stays on the front sans FD or guide so that's a bonus

Dumb trainer, MyWhoosh free 😎

Anybody else use something dedicated on trainer that could not be ridden outside at all or at least not safely?

Ya this hits home. Purists please look away.

At one stage this was my loved bike, and it has seen many variations in the last 13 years...

So once it was retired from racing it went back to it's standard wheels and climbed on the trainer where it has been for 6 years now.
There was a  hole rubbed through the frame during an adventure race in Scotland. Duct tape hid that at one stage
1x11 XT, running a road 11 Speed cassette and a 42 tooth front chainring. Shifter is held on with bits of motorbike clutch perch and cable ties.
Brake delete was successful.
Fork is locked out with an electrical connector and the stanchions are worn beyond repair.

1 Bottle cage is held on with a cable tie as I am too lazy to do a new rivnut. The cable tie was a quick plan mid ride 4 years ago

My IDT area is in need of a massive clean looking at these photos.

No photo description available.

There are very specific times and places where looking the part is of any real value. Business and the odd other occasion. But almost all the other times practicality and comfort are king.

Crocs just work for around the house and home office, the only people who hate them are people who haven't owned them yet...

Cracked Trek Domane rim brake frame that insurance never bothered to pick up - brakes removed, 105 chainset on kickr core I serendipitously acquired 5 days before the hard lockdown in March 2020.

Mine is a bit of a franken bike. It's a brand new old stock Commencal 26er MTB frame with a old road 105 crank (53/38 or something like that) with a 11 speed config at the rear. I added a very cheap oil filled fork (think it was R400 back in the day). The front wheel is an old A-Class 26er wheel (Rim brake)

Done this since the beginning of time.  When Rouvy was still called Virtual trainer and races was like chasing dots on Google maps. Zwift was in Beta and free😆

But but .... What bike did/are you use/ing that is the question 🤪

Have to love the way people use/reuse old stuff 👍... And make it all work together, in this case fit for purpose only

Currently a vintage Caad. ,Pumped it ( powder coat) and put an old Dura Ace 7800 groupset on. Cracked Carbon bar. No wheels / no brake calipers. Kickr rear. Kickr climb front.
