I think it's totally fair if you explain fully why you are reviewing 1 star. If I walk away from a purchase because of the seller's behaviour during discussions I can fairly make that info public and others can decide how they feel about it objectively.

If a seller only wants to sell based on collection in person, cash only, eft only, etc. It’s their choice surely. They are limiting their market size though.

As long as they’re polite about it, I don’t think they deserve a 1 star rating.

Give this user a 1 star rating and warn other Hubbers in your rating🤷‍♂️

Rating someone when a sale has not happened is abusing the system and against BH T&C's.  I guess if the seller feels this is unjustified, they could take it up with BH and request the buyer who gave the 1 star rating to be banned for abusing the system

From FAQ https://help.bikehub.co.za/en/articles/5778178-user-review-policy

Reviews may only be added where a sale happened or a firm agreement was in place
As per our Terms of service: User reviews should only be submitted where an agreement to transact exists or a transaction was concluded on Bike Hub. We reserve the right to remove feedback that relates to negotiations or communications where there was no agreement and/or a transaction did not take place or relates to a transaction not initiated via Bike Hub.

In short, if a sale wasn't concluded or there was no agreement to sell in place you should not be posting a review. If this cannot be verified we may prevent you from posting a review or remove a review.

I had a similar experience with a seller. I just accompanied a friend to view the bike to see if it was in a good condition, etc.  we viewed it & decided to take it, We then phoned his wife to make the payment, she wanted to use BHP but seller refused since we were there in person but he was happy to take immediate EFT payment. I was off of the whole deal but it was a low cost bike & we were walking away with it.

He has been on BH for about a year, 36 ads in total, with 4 x 5 star reviews and 1x1 start review as a buyer for time wasting.

In my opinion the rating system should not be solely for completed transactions

If a buyer or seller or is a time waster / non responder or whatever  this must be shared as it relates to how they transact at the end of the day.

I would agree, but users should only be able to do a 1 or 2 star once, to another user. Could see how this could be abused if someone is really upset.

For sure , with reference to the specific ad in question.

You rate someone 1star for being a time waster, if they ask is this available and they don't respond when you say yes?

And if you do rate them 1star, they rate you back 1star. Soon practically everyone at some point will get 1star, because now the system is being abused, because ratings are given not on transactions, but because of how people react, how the tone of the discussion goes, or someone feels the words are a bit hurty or any other excuse!

Over the years, the rating system has been discussed numerous times and that's why the provision is only for rating actual transactions.

If you buy and sell here, you will know many waste time, but is easier just to shrug it off.

If you want to rate time wasters, you should go sell on Facebook marketplace, you can have a field day doing so.... along with wasting a considerable amount of your time in doing so.

No need for me to sell on FB and I’ve traded plenty on here and have a good record , not by default but by design and because of how I conduct myself , if I wanted to deal with time wasters etc that’s where I’d be, I however expect more of this community

What community? The few regulars who post or comment?

Bikehub has changed from a community to a marketplace, it is what keeps the platform going.

The majority come here now to buy and sell. Many have zero postings. They are not here to interact in a community, but to buy or sell.

… but mostly protects the buyer… so if I am  a seller with 50 positive reviews and I sell to a buyer with zero reviews I am more likely to lose out…so I will refuse to use it

You and all other sellers are entitled to make that choice. But I am genuinely curious how you worry you'd lose out?

We had a sale north of R100k this week. A buyer with less than 24 hours on Bike Hub. The seller a Hubber of almost 10 years with many positive ratings. I'd argue that that sale, and many others like it, would not have happened with out Bike Hub Pay bridging the trust gap.

Again, it is your choice to use Bike Hub Pay or not. We’re keen to better understand the concerns of those who prefer not to, so we can continue improving the system.
