entertaining or not, Strava CEO gettting shot down or not isn't relevant to what is being alledged.

Feelings don't factor into the case. Suunto is now also suing Garmin for 5 patent infringements, relating to certain data monitoring and antennae placement

Seeing as Suunto is now Chinese owned I guess they would know all about patent infringements.

we wait, and we watch. ( yes yes intentionally)

Ditto

Although, I am getting slower and I'm seeing more and more rides with fewer and fewer PR's despite to my mind at least going ball's to the wall every ride. Either I've peaked in terms of my performance or I really am getting slower.

It's sad to see yourself fall off the curve so quick, but at my golden age of very late 40's I suppose it's to be expected.

As I know you are a downhill fan I'm tempted to tell you that after 50 it's all downhill but you'll be disappointed to hear that after 50, it's all uphill and from what I can see, pretty much continues that difficult, rocky incline to the end.

More and more people tend to ask me when I'm converting to an e-bike. My wife wants to know when I'm going to stop thinking I'm in my 20's.

I still feel able to ride at the level I do, and the stoke is still super high. I am wanting to correlate a direct link between the ability and skill to ride to mental and physical health. To my mind, I tend to think that as long as I'm having fun on the bike I'm in a good space mentally and physically.

but in saying that, whenever I'm not riding my body is beginning to ask questions I don't want to answer . . .

On Saturday I cycled 1 hour to the park run.  Then a 90 minute park run.  Another 1 hour cycle home.

Sure, I was pushing hard into the wind on the return trip, but never "suffering".  Just a good day of cross-training.

MAN !!!  On Sunday my body was asking some questions ....

If you are having FUN ... no "need" for an ebike.  but this is a whole different topic ....

I think Strava stays and this is a power play because they both need each other. Apple and Google and Samsung used to sue each other all the time, (maybe they still do), no one wins they just shift goalposts.

There's no point strava having their own hardware, they have such a headstart to remain the platform of choice. Whatever garmin puts into connect is fun, but the amount of garmin users who remain off strava is never going to be significant.

The big issue for me is that strava just mustn't do dumb stuff. This might be in that category. Their big issue is monetization, and I feel they look at their huge user base and their goals get too lofty. (just like twitter pre Elon).

This was a while ago now, but it reinforced why I like strava - just hope they don't cock it up

not with a 90minute parkrun!

Bwhahaha ... 🤣

Thankfully a LOT more than 5km in that time .... strange how often people use the terms "park run" and "5km" as the same thing.  I most often do about 15km.

That said, I do support friends doing real triathlons.  Absolutely no ways that I will manage even a half distance ....  RESPECT to each and every person doing these events !!!

Couple of us started logging rides on our phones, directly onto Strava.  Fine to have the data, but the itch to see data while riding ....

My first sports watch was a Polar, followed by an Edge for MTB ... Strava became to single spot to collect data from different brands.

Since then all my data is captured on Garmin and I am happy with Garmin Connect.

As a numbers person, I do enjoy following a couple of friends training plans.  Anything from  Ironman, Comrades to Cape Epic  to 36one, etc .... add dot-watching on the day and it becomes most interesting to see how some people manage their training to race day "transfer" ....

Strava seems to be central spot to follow them, but it would take a few clicks to do it on Garmin.

All that said, I agree with you .... there is most definately a culture of legal cases and then counter cases, throughout the whole spectrum of sports equipment.

First time I have heard someone calling a "parkrun" that is not 5km.

Parkrun actually just bought the 5k app the other day too.

Fair to say most offer a 5km option.

Many now offer a 10km option.

TrailFun has the typical 5 and 10km options, then added a 15 and 20km option as well.  Very nice when working towards a half marathon.

Screaming GARMINNNNNN to clear slower poephols out of your way as you head for a segment record will never have the same effect as screaming STRAVAAAAAA

Closest one could get to screaming SPARTA..

All are 5km, they have to get through a huge rigmarole that includes measuring the 5km course.. that's basically the entire USP.

Don't want to sound like a Stravasshole, but pretty sure you're making this up now. Show me one here parkrun.co.za
