We've been building something we wish had existed when we started riding. A completely free website covering every major MTB trail hub in the Western Cape. Permits, access info, trail grades and our videos all in one place.

29 hubs. 200+ videos. Free forever.

Tag a riding mate who needs this.

We launch SOON 🚵‍♀️🚵‍♂️

Always wanting to support people creating things. BUT what does it do that isn't already here (apart from your cool videos)?

https://mtbroutes.co.za/

not a diss, just a genuine question with hopefully an answer that showcases what you've been building.

Hello,

MTB Routes is a brilliant resource and we have massive respect for what Jacques and the team have built over the years. It covers the whole country and does it well.

What we do is different in a few ways:

We are laser focused on the Western Cape specifically. Not the whole country, just the 29 trail hubs within reach of Cape Town and surrounds. That focus means we can go much deeper on each one. Every hub on wmgoriding.com has current permit prices, where to buy them, getting there directions with GPS, seasonal riding tips, trail grade breakdowns and our own YouTube videos all in one place. You don't need to cross-reference three different sites and a Facebook group to figure out if you need a permit and where to park.

The other big difference is the video. Our whole channel is built around showing you exactly what riding each hub actually feels like before you go. That's the Weekend Warrior series, ride-alongs so you arrive knowing the trails, not guessing.

We're not trying to be MTB Routes. We're trying to be the thing specifically for our community here in the Western Cape that we always wished existed. Different tools for different jobs and we're grateful both exist.

Hope that makes sense :)

that's really not the way to look at it, the fact something or someone has already done something doesn't stop others from doing the same, but better or easier accessible or more flavour or less flavour...

if that was the approach then really nothing will go nowhere... Warren (and Melissa) has done something nothing stop me or you, tomorrow next week next year in 5 years time to do what they did,do but better or more innovative or different flavour!

Well done @Warren Melissa Go Riding i did something very similar prior to covid using WhatsApp and email, but more on the social outrides... it ran well for close to 2 years then attendance wittered down and my life got busier... haven't had the energy to get back into it again but i met some great people along the way who stay good riding mates to this day!

I feel you, life is so busy at the moment, we both have demanding day jobs and a 3 year old and just bought a new place 🤣

This was just a little passion project that turned into this.

Funny thing is, we just got off a call with a timing provider who will be doing permit purchases for most of the trails in the Western Cape straight from their site. We planning to link into their site from ours, so it will truly be a one stop shop for all riders.

Exciting times

@Warren Melissa Go Riding, Considering how bad most of the club websites are, and how convoluted the info is for people who don’t know, i’d say you did a great job of summarising all the useful stuff in one convenient place…Well done. It can of course be inproved to be even more useful - maybe that can be the endgoal..a one stop shop. As already mentioned, keep going. The videos are also a great way of providing a new rider with context. A coloured snake on a contour map does nothing to explain the subtleties of trail features and line options.

Your passion for this whole project of yours has been cool to observe over the past few years. I’d say you are doing more for the mtb scene around cape town than most. More so you guys are showing that it is accessible if you try.
