Cape Town danger areas

My buddy got taken out this morning around 6:30am in Kingfisher Rd in Southfield by 4 guys in a blue Citi Golf. They rammed him from the side as he turned left into Kingfisher Rd off Gull Rd and he ended up on the bonnet and then on the floor. They then drove away, turned around further down and came back, by this time his fiancé who was riding with him had arrived. The 2 guys in the backseat then got out and asked "apologized", asked him if the bike is broken, He said yes, They then got back in the car and drove away. He says he had a sneaky feeling because the car was behind him for a while going down Gull Rd, as he turned into Kingfisher they basically squeezed into him.

Not sure if he managed to get plate numbers etc, But just a heads up

Just spoke to him on the phone, The house on the corner where it happened infront of have cameras, So he is going later after work to see if they can see anything.

With 4 guys being in a Citi golf and my mate riding a 60cm frame, We doubt they were after his bike but perhaps trying to knock him over that he gets injured and while laying down they would rob him as has happened before to a guy in Stellies.

Anyone rode to town this morning ? Curious to know if the taxi strike is going to be a problem to ride through town tomorrow morning

I did, no issues - in fact the roads were pretty quiet.  Went via the bike path from Blouberg.  Not many open coffee shops though #cryalittle.  Loads of law enforcement in the CBD.

Should be safe to use the cycle lane the next two days lol. Coming into lower church this morning around 8, there was a major operation going on there. About 20 cop cars, vans, huge anount of officers, dogs, shotguns, vagrants in single file being escorted up the hill. Wanted to take a pic but was driving.

they were down both sides of the bridge. Also taking pictures of everything. Hopefully some change coming.

"smelt dead down there"

It has been ... unpleasant ... down there for a very long time.  Nevertheless, some of us who have personally encountered the muggers are of the opinion that they are not members of the vagrant community.  The real problem is the total neglect and decay of the area, thanks to the railways.

I also don't think it's the homeless people that are driving the bike jackings there

I don't think that the majority of homeless people living in the area would want any unnecessary attention upon them. but having seen how rapidly it has grown in the past couple of years there are bound to be a few bad apples living on the wrong side of the bus line and not part of the community
