I heard about the WA message .... the lack of information has me wondering about this ...

Actually, HOPING my favorite ride-alone road is still safe.

All we can do is try to avoid the loieterer hotspots .... the perps in vehicles is a sad reality that can pop up anywhere.

I know the people that were attacked on Bottelary - sadly all true, we really are not 100% safe anywhere on public roads, not even in groups.

Thank you for the feedback

Truly is a pity.  Hope your friends recover from this and are out and about soon.

I prefer to find solice in the fact this was not loiterer linked ....

What is scary for me (don't know what WA's you saw) was that initially they got away from the attackers but then the perpetrators got into a car and chased them down. Also happened at a time when the road was fairly busy.

I've always wondered if attempting to stop traffic is a viable tactic in such a situation.
It probably happens so fast that you wont even have a chance to do so...

Yes - and can one really expect a motorist to risk his/her safety to intervene on your behalf when confronted by a group of armed thugs high on drugs?

I was thinking more along the lines of stopped cars providing an audience that might make the thugs give up on you, even though nobody climbs out their cars...

Call it what you want, but i think motorists in certain areas are more willing to help out than others. I was riding my gravel bike in SS mode around the boereworsgordyn and was a bit pap at one stage and just stopped to catch my breath and look at the view. N plaas-oom in a beige landcruiser stopped and rolled down the window to ask if i needed help or anything🤷‍♂️.  When we still lived in GP i always felt that in certain areas (true for CT too) if someone saw you lifeless next to the road…nobody would stop. People in general just arent keen to get involved, others thrive on it 😄

A couple guys tried to grab me off my bike coming off the N1 into Woodstock. Just passed Beach Rd in peak hour traffic. Luckily they weren't very good at whatever they were attempting to do

They live just down those embankments. The fence is open too. Cant risk it. Glad you are ok. Morning or afternoon? That area seems to be more prone to these things in the morning.

It was in the afternoon, just after 4.

so what now ? We're stuck in table view/milnerton with doing loops around duynefontein ? Can't go to Durbanville, can't go to town... awesomeness

there have been incidents on the cycle lane between milnerton and blouberg too.

So basically out the garage, down the driveway, maybe bunnyhop the curb, back into garage - rinse repeat
