Have you contacted PPA to inform them of this situation, or to as if they are aware of it and what they are going to do about it?

Serious question.

They reported the accident on their social media the day it happened, pretty sure they are aware.

@Wannabe I have sent an email to the info@pedalpower address.

Might not be a bad idea if more Hubbers can do similar.

By all means, if somebody has contact details of the relevant local authority responsible for this section of road, please share.

Dare I ask: "WHERE is PPA in this ?"

Not to detract from your post but how many of us are even still PPA members? Think my membership lapsed this year, for me they are becoming increasing irrelevant.

I'm a member but increasingly annoyed with them. There is hardly any visible advocacy for us and what there is seems completely ineffectual. Development after development goes up with new roads being built with no riding infrastructure incorporated. Silence on crucial issues and an endless stream of posts telling us to share the road, ride single file and wear bright clothing.

Arrest the knob, and then arrest the other knobs who use this behaviour as justification for killing the other law-abiding cyclists on a Sunday ride (like always, the comments on that Facebook post are probably not representative of the whole, but paint a picture of the people we share a road with).

2017 PPA had a strong presence at MTB events  .... to the point there were threads on the Hub that PPA is only aimed at MTB, and dont care about roadies .... how things change.

In any case, had a nice chat with them at the Fyn Breede event.  Next event I took extra cash to pay my PPA membership .... JA, back then we still paid in cash, at events.  Never saw them again at any MTB events.

Still, they ARE the "official" voice of cyclists .... so they SHOULD be following up on these danger spots.  O-well, let their actions show us who they are and what their priorities are .....

I rode through town this morning, something I don't do that often. Damn it was terrifying, I changed my plan of going to suikerbossie and back after a couple of cars almost parked over me. Noone stops at stop signs, noone looks in their ******* mirrors, but sure the problem is always that cyclists think they own the roads blablabla...

Once again I felt cycling on the road is the most dangerous sport I've ever done, and I use to race motorbikes bar to bar at 280kph..

I did the N1 dash to Foreshore from Paarden Island a few months back and I nearly got stepped on by one of those container haulers that swarm around the harbour. I haven't bothered doing it again despite having such an awesome ride. So sad that despite there being a drive towards NMT in Cape Town, it just doesn't seem like it has any real political will to bring it to the logical conclusion.

Maybe? For how much longer though?

Dont think the number of members on the website is updated and on the AGM's they don't mention membership numbers, only that in the last 2 years they lost 30% of their members, wonder how many they lost in 2021 and 2022.

Dont want to bash them on what they are doing or not doing, but I genuinely wonder about their continued relevance as an entity.

I know personally, I only joined the PPA back in 1999 because it gave me a better start time for my first  Argus, I remained a member for about 5 years after that, but soon realised that up in Joburg they have no presence, I was getting nothing out of being a member. So I stopped renewing.

When I joined in 2011 most races in the wc (mtb or road) were associated to them, so for most events you would get a ppa discount. Also seeding was controlled by them (maybe not a bad thing that they don't have a monopoly on that anymore) so it was a no-brainer to be a member in the WC.

This year - R100 discount on the Cycle tour, R50 discount on the one tonner (didnt get to do one of their around-Paardeberg rides and no other road races had PPA discount). So less than the R300 annual membership. If I renew I would basically see it as a charity contribution to cycling advocacy, but for that I need to see more advocacy.

Got a nice reply from Liz at PPA.

1. They have reported it to the MEC Mobility, as it is a provincial road.

2. They are following up.

Thank you Liz and PPA.
