  1. Most laws are rooted in religion... do a little research or maybe those topics are also tltr. for you? Then I better keep it short...
  2. You find that statement myopic? Clearly you do not understand to defining principles behind law.... without law you would have anarchy. You can debate the moral compass of society versus the implimentation of law all you want, and welcome to legal 101 if thats the case.... i suggest you read http://www.law.harva...con_Rev_227.pdf If you feel that not jumping a red robot goes against your moral compass, then you have bigger issues at hand!!
  3. Its the law... end of arguement... you CANNOT in any way justify breaking it... admitting to breaking the law safely goes against the rule of law and the morals of society... unfortunately in SA we are an unlawful society so we all break it on a daily basis and then justify it by claiming you were "being safe".... laws are set in place to prevent us from harming others, protection from being harmed, to prohibit self harm, to keep us morally upright as most are rooted in religion and to prevent unfair government advantage. Laws and rules not only define what is right and what is wrong but also protect and endorse the rights of individuals. So to conclude if you find it correct to take away the rights of others then i guess you can run robots and justify your actions (congratulations you are as bad as 99% of the taxi's in SA and look at the accidents they cause), however if you feel the laws apply to everyone, then applying these start one person at a time. I find your answer that these are poor reasons not to jump robots a poor reflection of your understanding of the topic at hand. 1) it's the law 2) it brings forth the wrath of motorists upon cyclists 3) its a bad example for children who don't know how to cross a road 4) it will upset someone if they happen to kill you.
  4. Hi Gregg I will try make it if thats okay? Any idea of the venue yet?
  5. What was ur time? Worth comparing to past performances, and ur group performance. Keep in mind that you start very fast and hard... this can cause lactic acid buildup.
  6. Where are all the pictures - show and tell time of all things new and exciting... need something to drool over while sitting at work in GP while everyone else enjoys the fairest Cape!!!
  7. No doubt will have the usual "No water at tables... single track congested... to muddy... to bumpy.... to grassy" moaning afterward. I sometimes wonder why people do these races so ill-prepared for these things? As for NF... i love racing there, and for anyone who thinks its flat and fast.... just wait for those little up & down sections to start taking its toll... and if that doesnt hurt, then ride faster!!!
  8. Thats exactly where you should race... you know the trails and terrain so there can be no excuses? See if all your training has paid off?
  9. Yup. But then its penalizing the masses for the actions of a few? I just checked the CSA constitution and didnt find anything that applies to actiions outside of the sport itself. http://www.cyclingsa.com/rules-and-regulations.aspx#45 Anyway will be interesting to see how this is handled, and hopefully sets a decent example to all and sundry?
  10. Dont think they can. That would be like saying PPA & CSA can ban you for jumping a red light... breaking the law in both instances (in my opion they should be able to for both!!!)
  11. Where does it say that the conduct shown in this video will result in the ban from the sport at all? As far as i'm aware Its a criminal matter first and then a civil matter thereafter. I'm pretty sure the PPA wont have any leg to stand on in this regard as they were not participating in any sanctioned event.... as a club and community however, sanction needs to apply through cancelling membership and word of mouth. Just to clarify, I find this conduct disgusting and hope the full extend of our justice system prevails.... but i'm affraid to say if that fails, there will unlikely be further recourse.
  12. Looks like the average Carbon frame from Taiwan with a coat of paint... but i'm sure it will have the pricetag of a Porsche attached.
  13. A high lumen light on your bar, and one smaller and lighter one mounted to your helmet is the way to go. Magic Shine / Lezyne / Exposure / Hope Vision & Remo are some of the top quality ones....
  14. Come on.. cant we merge this thread with other one? That way we can see the two OP's having a go at each other via internet... they are both to quiet at the moment... need some reaction and name calling
  15.   waaaahahahahaha
  16. This is going to be interesting.... maybe go read https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/136444-white-male-in-garfontein-pushing-cyclists-into-traffic/page__st__48?do=findComment&comment=2217379
  17. Agteros... your hole was just getting deeper there... Wrt the issue... you can lay a charge of assault. If you find out where he lives or get a license plate number its pretty easy to do. Just the hassle of having to appear in court may make him think twice about pushing anyone again.
  18. Amazed by the turnout for this race considering the pricetag... just take a look at the results to see how many people attended http://www.route66mtb.co.za/results/Route_66_2014_final_results.pdf Clearly Leverage Corp is doing it right?
  19. Must be one of the best organised races in Gauteng... rode in VB and we had 2 motorbike marshals with us the entire ride... big kudos to them for the way they handled the traffic and the cyclists. Everything about the race keeps me coming back for more... even when i'm chewing handlebar tape suffereing on the highway to the finish!!!
  20. I'm curious as to whether any fences are jumped to access these trails? Property needs to be cleary demarkated to enforce any trespassing laws..... this doesnt mean I'm one of them, however its a well ridden area for all cyclists, and i know there are plenty routes/single track sections that run through the surrounding areas. If someone does knowingly access your property by going over a fence or through a gate, then there can be no debate... if not well then its always going to be difficult to enforce
  21. Shotgunning a beer just before isnt exactly what i had in mind... ... You also need to consider that during a race, its not to easy to eat solid foods, so essentially it ends up being sachets etc... so whats most important is pre-race meals. So far the night before I find fish and rice works the best, but i'm still trying to find the perfect mix for breakfast.
  22. I've always wondered what lond distance athletes eat before races, and how long before the events they have their meals. Also what do you consume during the race? We did a 136km race on Saturday, and i felt like I was close to my limit at the end even though I had Powerbar energy drinks and 3 Gu's during the race, and a big bowl of Pronutro and bananas 2 hours before the race. Any trade secrets out there? Maybe a pro dropped a tip on what they do?
  23. I Had the "Osymmetric" blades on. They are not great with a standard cable setup, but work well with an electronic groupset. There is a lot of rub on the front derailer, and changing can be difficult. The electronic minor adjustment allows for this. The Sky team has electronic, hence they have no issues. On the power and pedal stroke side, you will get used to them pretty quickly, but expect some muscle fatigue for the first few rides as you pedal stroke becomes more efficient, so you will use different muscles. I personally found climbing easier with the Osymmetric, but in the end the hassle i had with changing the chain, and noise due to rubbing the front derailer, i went back to the standard oval rings.
  24. In those "Gimp" suites!! Weigh yourself before and after... at least 5kg less. good luck for the ride... hope u sell plenty
