Jip, thats what I did last time.

It did result in issues with accuracy of distances ....

Lol... does it really make a difference, none of these software apps are accurate with regard to distance. All that really matters with indoor riding is doing the required time at required power

    VERY strange actually.

Last month I contacted MyWhoosh and they said that synching to GarminConnect is NOT in their immediate plans.

I most certainly will re-install MyWhoosh another try, testing the GarminConnect sync.

Based on other posts in this thread I will also try to lower the graphics settings, I had it on "auto" ... took a few minutes of buffering before the system settled down.

There is no garmin sync on MW, only Trainingpeaks and Strava

Just dual record with your garmin on indoor workout mode.  Life is much easier.

I use MW, IndieVelo and Zwift and always record the ride with my garmin head unit.  Firstly should the software crash, I have all the data on my garmin.  Secondly, garmin data for Discovery points.

MW, IndieVelo and Zwift data is saved but I do not sync it to TP, then I don't have delete double recording.

The only sync I have is with TP set up to pull in structured workouts of the day to MW, IndiVelo and Zwift

I’m running it on a 10year Dell Inspiron 3500 series with 8GB Ram and i7 dual core processor. Graphics card is nVidia GeForce 2Gb card. Works ok but doesn’t render graphics as sharp as a newer machine might.
My whoosh did import TodaysPlan workouts but since they closed shop this has fallen away. They are in discussions with Training Peaks so wel have to wait and see how that plays out.

Zwift and rouvy are still easier platforms to run with Tacx Training App the next level up in terms of hardware requirements.

one of the packages that’s great bang for your buck is Performance Pro. $99 for a three user license once off and there’s plenty of workouts to choose from

TP integration has been available for a long time already

For me - Training in TR with a colpased screen while i'm riding around in ZWIFT at the same time is the only thing that keeps me riding on an IDT - I think the perfect platform is ZWIFT with TR fully intergrated or visa versa - Sadly we won't see that anytime in the near future

The double subscription is hurting the wallet though

Potentially coming soon with the Zwift Training API https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2024/04/structured-training-interesting.html

Can anyone recommend a good running club close to Lonehill in Jhb?

I used to run a fair bit, but mostly because triathlon forced me to. Got an itch to run again and think joining a club might be the nudge that I need to get going and stay consistent

Fourways Road Runners or Sunninghill Striders

Shot thank you, I have started slow and can do a 8km easily now. Buuuuut it's shocking how inefficient my body is at running vs cycling. Haven't found that zone 2 running pace yet...

Use the talk test.  If you can talk normally or have a conversation whilst running then you will be in Zone 2, as soon as the talking becomes laboured or short sentences then you have moved out of Zone 2 and can dial back the pace until you are able to have a conversation again.  You will be around 4/10 effort.

So it turns out Stages owes Giant a ton of cash and Giant is sueing Stages to settle the unpaid invoices totalling $13million ish.

Four of Stages top execs have now joined Giant so lets wait for the technology to re-emerge under the Giant brand. Giant already builds the Stages bike computer and all the indoor bikes.

I can see the power meter market being incredibly cut-throat going forward.

The technology has matured, the market has stabilised and it's ripe for a price war.

Problem is that most people who need a pm have one already, and they paid a lot for their current unit. Trying to get them to upgrade or increase the market is only possible with pricing getting slashed. You saw a similar thing with HRM watches and GPS units, but the market could handle both budget options and higher priced premium products. Power meters can only add convenience and accuracy going forward, and that will plateau (if not already).

In 3 years I see half the players left, charging half the price.

(the tech is exploding in sailing, but the pricing is still bonkers.  https://theyachtrigger.com/cyclops-smart-link/#smartlink-products)

Exactly this I think, I have 2 Stages PM and had them for probably close to 7yrs and they have worked faultlessly.

They released their apple tv version, keen to try that. I havent managed to see if TrainingPeaks workouts sync.

I have been using the windows version for a very long time now and you can sync the Trainingpeaks workout of the day.  I would suspect that you can do the same with ATV if you have linked your TP account.

I'm sure you got your Stryd from Niel - Dinamic Coaching right?

    That's us

Nope, but I know of Neil

I have been using STRYD since 2018, first non-wind, then wind, now next gen.

Currently sponsored by Stryd/Adidas and others in a research program looking at the runners high as highlighted below which was the original brief.

"With the ambitious goal to decode the elusive phenomenon of the #RunnersHigh, adidas is searching for 100 tech affine runners to become equipped with @strydrunning, @whoop, and @supersapiensinc for 1 full year.

By measuring the physical demands on sports gear with leading wearable tech companies in the real world, you can join a one-of-a-kind #sciencegoeswild research environment to decode the #RunnersHigh."

So I know a lot of other info about Stryd that many do not.

And as to your other answer, if you are running with Stryd, then it makes no sense to log as a bike workout.  All watches can record power whether natively using the Stryd watch app or adding Stryd Zones to one of the running data screens, as well as give haptic alerts.

I know right.  I did a 40min run yesterday which included a 5km TT to get power figures for the run.

    2km Warm up.

    5km TT

    2km Cool down.

Logged the 5km as a separate exercise because I needed accurate power.

    Zero points

Why did you need to log the TT separately?

I also run to power (STRYD) and can extrapolate the TT information as required from the STRYD app/Power Centre (even if you are using one of the others, garmin/polar/coros, you can do this).

And if you are using Stryd and auto-cp then it will update automatically for a power figure for future race analysis, if there was a change in CP. Else you can use CP information manually once extrapolated, if not using auto-cp.

You could have run the 40mins as one without separating.  Even if the workout was not a structured workout, you could have used the watch lap function to exactly log the start and finish of the 5km TT.

I believe you are coached, in which case the TT info can also be looked at in isolation by your coach using software like WKO5 (paid) or even Golden Cheetah if not using a paid version.

So there is no reason to do separate warm-up, cool down from the TT.

I coach many athletes both runners and triathletes and I am also a registered STRYD coach, so know how to extrapolate power figures whether doing a TT or a STRYD CP test protocol workout

You make your own problems with Discovery it seems and are easily sorted.

Yup - except I am in the Philippines with no Laptop and limited Wifi.  No way to take a snip of the results which you need to mail them as a jpg to accompany the link to the official results.  I am familiar with that process.

I will only also only be getting back after the cut-off on Wednesday the 1st May.

In fact, I am not even 100% certain that my Watch will download the points in time.

Do it on your phone, you can screenshot everything and send when you have wifi, else if your phone can do esim, buy an esim for your trip. I recommend Airlo and then you can get cheap data. for USD4:50, 1GB data for 7 days https://www.airalo.com/philippines-esim

The only time I had issue doing this was back in 2020, when Dubai 70.3 was raced on the Friday (weekend was Fri/Sat), so could not log the points for the following week.

I'm on a 211 week exercise goal streak and doing a 70.3 in the Philippines on the 21st.  I plan to recover for a week after in the Philippines, so dropped a mail to Discovery to see if I could pause training for that week while I recover.

No chance said the Lady.  Who then tried to get me to join Discovery Bank, where, if I did, I would be able to take a rest week.

I did in passing, ask the question that as a Medical Aid company, didn't they think is was risky expecting someone who has done an extreme event, like the Comrades, or Iron-man to not take a rest week to recover if they would like to keep their streak going, and offer no alternative, other than to exercise on a smashed immune system and risk getting sick?

Silence of course is also an answer.....

You don't need to ask them if you know the system.

Log your race as a timed outdoor sporting event https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/individual/vit-partner-outdoor-sporting-events (this has been in place since almost inception of the points system)

Supply the relevant info, race name, finish time, link to website to verify time and finisher certificate.  You will then get I think it is 1500 points (use to be 3000 and may well still be and at one point a full IM was 9000).  I will be able to tell you after racing 70.3PE next week what the point allocation is for this year.  Irrespective it will be more than the 900/1200 weekly requirement (depending on what you are on)

You will then be able to take the week off as a recovery week, or an easy week as you would have raced on the weekend and been able to claim the points for the following week.

You can do this for single discipline events, I do especially if running an ultra distance and need the following week to recover.

    See page 4 https://www.discovery.co.za/assets/discoverycoza/vitality/how-to-join/points-and-partners.pdf

Any race I do whether a single discipline or multi, I log the race for firstly extra points to my yearly total, as well as giving me the option to have an easy week following the event if I feel I need it.

Currently sitting 435 week streak (with 20 x 70.3s logged this way)

Anyone successfully watching on Eurosport 2 via Kodi?

I'm still have buffering issues ☹️

You considered that the buffering is due to the undersea cables being cut/damaged this week and that all internet and streaming is being routed through what is available and limited.

There are a number of websites overseas i cannot even get on to, all being timed out or error responses.

  15. Unless you are doing xterra triathlon (off road), look at getting a road bike.  It will be more for your money and quicker in the race.  Then if you do take to the sport of triathlon, you will already have a road bike and not have to sell a MTB to get a road bike,

As for bike rack, if your car can fold down the back seats, just put it in the boot and save money.

Good luck with your training and don't over think things, be comfortable you can swim, bike and run the distances, so have confidence in yourself on race day.

  16. For those with Android box or firestick. currently free

Worldwide sports channels app incl Eurosport UK, ES, DE & IT, also has all the DSTV SS channels ;) https://sportsfire.tv/ (on one of my boxes it does not show up in the apps menu once loaded, but I can run it by going to settings, apps, scroll to sportsfire and then open. Just in case you have the same issue and do not think it has loaded)
