I definitely wouldn't buy a single boa dial shoe (at least not one without a Velcro strap at the bottom) as it significantly limits adjustments. Maybe I am cheap, but I wouldn't be willing to be separated with 6k on any kind of shoe.

So, I will exhaust all possible leads on the 701 and settle for a 702 if all of them are dead ends. Thanks for all the information.

Single dial Boa adjust better than a double Boa shoe.

  2. Bikes are all made in factories with the exact same setups.

Groupsets are all the same on all bikes. In other words Sram Apex on a Specialized is  not better than Sram Apex on a Titan.

The big difference comes in the geometry of a particular bike. The bigger brands spend more money on refining the ride quality of their bikes.

With that said, I rode a Silverback Gravel GR for a few years, it was the best bike I ever had (and there have been many across many disciplines) till it was stolen after a break in.

I now have the gravel CF. Geometries on these bikes are really dialled in.

Thanks very much Nick (and others who commented). I'll return the wheel today to give the LBS the opportunity to rectify their mistake. Everyone has a bad day, though unfortunately they have had a few of those with me over the past 6 months or so. If they don't get it right, will look for someone in Northern suburbs of CPT.

    Thanks again. Cheers.

Unfortunately many “wheelbuilders” as they get labeled as or self profess, do not use a spoke tension meter, and some who do, tend to use some sub par digital tool that’s not even fit for measuring the tightness of the curls on a Boksburg perm.

I suddenly and unwillingly find myself in the position of needing one of these .... 🤪🙈

Do you know where I can get one (22 to 24mm GXP adapter and other required spacers)?

Edit:  I see multiple options abroad but cant find any advertised in SA ... 🤷‍♂️

The adapter comes supplied with a BB (unfortunately)

I got a Token in at the moment and when it started creaking I was concerned but when I opened it up the bearings was still perfectly good, smooth with zero play.

After I cleaned & greased its 100% now.  My LBS installed it for me a few months ago and since I didn't know the Token brand at the time I was a bit skeptical.  The LBS didn't torque my crank properly and it came loose after only about 30km, hence I was even more skeptical.

But the Token BB seem to be OK regardless.  Let see how long before it start irritating me again with some creaking ... 🤪😂

GXP is very flawed in its design.

When Truvativ introduced it, the design was groundbreaking, and then Shimano responded with their Hollowtec, to this day trusted and proven.

The GXP takes all the load bearing on the non drive side, which wears that bearing prematurely quick. That and the fact that the tolerances on that bearing is not great.

The Token BB uses 24 mm ID bearings on both sides and then supply a beautifully machined adapter with very tight tolerances. The insert sits internally and spreads the load across both non and non drive side bearings more evenly.

One BB 4 years and over 12,000km. I weigh 110 kg and ride quite big gears.

I guess we're going to have to disagree...especially as it hasn't been on the market for decades ..🙂

I’ve never said it has been on the market for decades.

Ive been working on bikes for 35 years plus.

And it’s a well known fact that the SRAM GXP BB is the worst BB ever to see lighy of day.

I often still wonder what they were thinking.

No disrespect to what you own, but alas.

Trying to  give  you advice that could benefit you, but it would appear that was a mistake 👍🏼

Rather go with this and either Bike Addict or Price Match at Cyclelab ..cost me R590 yesterday. Been riding one for 5 years and 13000km. I just change bearings.Screenshot_20230615_092008_Chrome.jpg.06d6520d2a93ec0c677308a42a5c837d.jpg

That’s GXP and these things don’t last.

Best to go next time is the Token 24 mm that comes with the GXP adapter.

Its not about winning.... the responses hinge around the  "time to put the old man out to pasture" comment.  Which imo was a bit harsh.

I know you know this, however for the rest of us....There can be only one winner, TDF has +/- 198 riders of which less than 10 of them have a realistic chance of placing on the GC podium.

One step at a time....First he has to get selected for the TDF team

    Go Vroomie

    Let’s he honest Swiss

The hub has always been like the Lenasia drag championships.

The cars with the loudest engines are always the slowest.

But yeah, I don’t see Froome making claims about winning races, it’s the suburb kermesse gold medalists who want it.

No one ages in jhb when you see behind the scenes you would think they race a category lower each year in some cases.

sure he has an incredible career, no one like him or dislike him can ever argue, but that was then, this is now.

Good doctors, and then those same guys who see the doctors become supposed and vehement anti-doping crusaders.

As for Froome, his expectations of himself is far lower than that of the entitled public.

In fairness he has as much chance of winning or placing in a race as they do winning Tour of Brakpan.

Because unlike any of us he has aged.

I get that Klipdrift makes South Africans feel invincible, but in the end of the day, we aren’t machines.

But I digress, he still has more wins behind him than most Brakpanner’s have kids with their sisters, and that’s no easy task.

I don't get the antagonism against the guy.

It was there before the doping charge and it's not there aginst Bernal/Thomas so can't just be a SkyIneos thing.

He got dumped by Brailsford after his big crash, and it's a bit disheartening to see a storied former champ battling to get back to the top (which totally justified the DB move).

I know he looks a bit weird, stares at his stem too much and won too many times.

His bokkie is a bit wild on the twitters, but that;s not unusual either.

I like him. despite all dat, running up a col sans bike, attacking on donwhills with sags and a supertuck - he's not all boring

    nice listen

    He

I write it down to a good old S.A. personality trait, where people simply can’t be happy for others that do well.

I remember building a loan bike for him when he was 15, 2 nights before he left for Kenya to go and do a race.

A total nobody, but he went nonetheless and won, beating David Kinjah in that race.

From there he stayed hungry with an unquenchable hunger.

I was privileged enough to have him work in my store over school holidays, it was very evident that he had the highest of respect for anyone and everyone.

A humility that most can only dream of, accompanied with a serious training regime and moral ethics.

He didn’t rise to the top by luck or favor.

He earned every second of his success.

I doubt many will ride their first Tour De France as a last minute pick, start Alpe D’heuz alongside Denis Menchov, sitting in the top 10 at the start of that 13.9 km monster, and still come out the other side alive to tell the tale.
