  1. Nothing personal Marius, but I've never been a specialized fan. Sorry, my vote goes to Crux's Crackendale.....
  2. Yep, that's how I have it as well. The Zipp rims are quite popular amoungst other wheel builds for carbon rims. Their 202, 303 & 404 rims are built onto various other hubs & spokes.... As for braking surfice, I would recommend the Coolstop pads, made specifically for carbon rims. I use mine on my Bora's and appart from when its REALLY wet, they work well. (Even managed to avoid a crash in the bunch on the recent 3-day PPA vets tour thanks to the stopping power...) There are other options available, cork pads by Corima, Zipps own brakepads made for carbon rims. The cork pads are nice, but difficult to get hold of. (Ask Bikemax, he gets them directly from overseas occasionally)
  3. Nope for that he should at least get road pedals AND nice flashy BLING BLING road shoes......
  4. Ja GROOTSEUN.... I'm pretty sure, if your big burly figure takes up an entire lane while commuting in early morning Cape Town traffic, the motorists don't even dare to hoot at you....
  5. Mark off another one supporting Squirt. Road and mtb, wet of dry.
  6. Ok, here's a NASTY idea....... for a future protest ride. If they want to close the Rooi Els road for cyclists, just out of curiousity, whats the minimum speed on that road? Why not make up a huge convey of cars, and ride the road at some stupid speed of 10-15km/h, with banners and flags waving..... "I'D BE FASTER ON MY BICYCLE....."
  7. Hey Slowpoke, Well come back. Once again good luck with the recovery. I had a head on collision in December, also only remember very little about the entire day, but what I do remember is Fatty looking after me till they loaded me in the Ambulance, and the next thing was another cycling buddy coming to fetch me in hospital..... All the best, and keep us posted.
  8. I have three words for you: JUST DO IT! It's great, and the biggest bonus, is come race day, the tandem bunches are much smaller than any other groups, so its a lot less stressfull and much safer. WorcesterWheelers2006-10-24 03:35:47
  9. I'm with Dr. Zuess. Racing, only stop if its someone I know, or if it looks serious. (last years Argus I gave my chainbreaker to fellow tandem riders, at the bottom of Suikerbossie...) still managed to catch a few tandems up the climb, and dragged their lazy a$$es to the finish. Training rides, will always stop and offer assistance.
  10. Hey Slowpoke. Here's to a speedy and full recovery. Please keep us posted on her progress.
  11. Looks like we'll have to start a Weight weenies section on this site soon...... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE One of my all time favourite pass times it to see what bikes can be built from all the latest and lightest parts, and then to add up the cost of what such a build would cost...... At the moment my easiest weight saving will be to drop around 7kg's of excess body fat!!!!
  12. Team Edition is with S-Ram Force, But theres also a pretty looking one specked with Dura-Ace, and same Ksyrium ES wheelset
  13. Used to be just me, but my girl friend has joined me on the tandem. And looking at how competative she is, she'll probably get hooked pretty soon.....
  14. No wonder you pipped us in the Tandem TT with your takkies....
  15. Yeesh Bruce, are there ANY toys you don't have??!! Any further feedback on the Ergamo power crank?
  16. So are they commercially available in SA yet?
  17. While on the topic of saddles. Any comments / recommendations from the ladies. Looking for a good saddle for my new tandem partner...
  18. Ok, so lets have this training camp somewhere sentral, like Lesotho..... PLENTY of climbs in that area I'm told..... You up for this Fatty? Perhaps some where over the Xmas holidays. Or the next time there's a decent long weekend?
  19. Great!!! Wat gan ek kry? huh? huh? huh? thanx Well ons kan altyd jou Ultegra levers probeer inruil vir iets Italjaans.....
  20. 1. It's not a TT, its a kermesse, though the website would have corrected that info by now? 2. Suggest you call Cornelia to find out if they can accomodate you, even if you wont be in the running for overall prizes. I'm pretty sure they would welcome any ladies, especially storng ladies to ride the kermesse and the Sunday road event.
  21. As far as the debate, I love my Campy chorus groupset. I really don't think there's so much difference in performance, both top end groupsets work really well. As I see it, you've got to ask yourself two questions: 1. What looks better with your bike, I'm a HUGE campy supporter, but there are actually a few bikes that look nicer with those DA cranks... 2. Is value for money a major concern. Then Shimano is probably a short head in from of Campy, though I get the general idea Campy stuff lasts longer, provided you look after it.
