Possibly precautionary due to other pre-existing conditions, which may put me in higher risk for "inflamation of the heart". Certainly a well documented, and very short term, side effect of vaccination.
Just finished a walk. At 13 minutes per km my hart rate was similar to a typical sub 10 minutes per km .... feels weird to walk THAT slow ....
After about 5 days I will start with short slow sessions on Zwift .... pacing according to my heart rate.
Thanks.
after I had a very mild covid infection I built up slowly again ( I am 63) as I lost a friend who started too fast after he had covid
1st week 20 minutes at walking pace HR
2nd week 40 minutes at walking pace HR
3rd week kept HR below 70% of max
I have no commonalities so that helps. Non smoker and non drinker as well

Was NOT morning to be outside ....
Magnificent rainbow outside our office window this morning
Even my lunchtime walk was uncomfortably CHILLY .... Wind cutting through multiple layers of clothing.
EDIT - Enjoy your rides for the next two weeks. Please post LOTS of pics .... second jab tomorrow .... no strenuous excercise .....
Why the break after 2 nd vaccination? Just curious as I can’t find anything that advocates this. Another rider from my CT group did the same just because he felt like a rest

Going out to Rooi-Els or even as far as Kleinmond is superb though and we often brave the busy road just for how amazing the coastal views are.
We try go out to Rooiels as early as possible on a Sunday morning to avoid the pilgrimage to Hermanus . and we have bright flashing lights front and rear. very nice coffe stop just before you get back into Gordon Bay

I was just about to ask the same question. Mud shedding?

Obviously all other factors play a part - Nurtured at a young age, nutrition, specialist coaching at the right age etc, etc...
Other factors that can STOP children from succeeding include: too much pressure from parents and a subsequent lack of interest in the sport.
The converse is also true that some kids would never have got to the heights that they attained if it wasn't due to the dogged determination of their parents.
I don't think that there is a ONE WAY approach to creating champions.
Bruce Fordyce always thanked his parents for passing down good genes.

Done this twice although I did stop during the meetings
at top of G Spot in Stellenbosch and at top of view point of Steynrus Dam overlooking Gordons Bay. Best reception for a long time

Went for a Rapid COVID test yesterday and came back positive, so decided to go and get a lab test done to be sure, so don't really want to push things until I have the results. I don't have any symptoms, but 4 or 5 people that I work with tested positive, hence the test.
I had very mild cold symptoms two weeks ago which disappeared after 4 days. I decided to be cautious and go for a covid test which came back positive. So now I am doing 7km rides around the estate at a very sedate pace for a week and then building up week by week for the next month.
I cannot believe I am being this sensible. But a number of my old teammates have died already so best I be patient rather than be a patient

Black sparrow hawk about 50cm. Big enough to prey on pigeons

My cars have cambelts and were changed at 120 000kms. My cars are serviced every year regards less of kms travelled. I have worked in preventative maintenance environments my whole adult life and adopt the same approach to my private belongings - Maintain/Replace before broken.
I was also a driver on the Angolan border for 18 months so preventative maintenance became 2nd nature. Rather get dirty and greasy in camp than stuck in the middle of the bush waiting for a recovery vehicle.
This year will be the 1st time in 5 years that the servicing of my cars will cost more than that of my bicycles. It's because two of my cars will have major 180 000 km services instead of the normal routine ones and not because my bike services have reduced
At my current rate of driving my cars will never need another major service. Bikes on the other hand ????

Takes the edge off early in the ride and folds up super small.
Do you know whether it gets sweat build up inside or does it breathe?

I can see myself swapping our one vehicle for such a thing to scoot to the shop for groceries and for the school run. All are within 2kms from home.
Our cars are being used so little these days that I am struggling to keep the car batteries alive, no jokes!
We spilt our time between Jhb and Cape Town - two week shifts.- because I am still in WFH situation. So I disconnect the battery of the car that won't get driven during while we are away. But like you I find that I am riding my bikes about 180kms a week and driving about 10kms a week.
I live in a little hub of convenience - everything I need to buy or eat is within a 3km radius of both homes.

If you were there then we will excuse a slight loss in memory now.
To rub some serious salt in raw wounds .....
I have a buddy that is considering buying an e-bike .... to keep up with his wife, on her normal bike .... I KNOW that with my ebike on full boost I will run out of BOTH batteries long before she runs out of steam !!
we are such a silly bunch with our pre-conceived ideas .....
Sounds like my situation
My wife used to do a similar tour every year for ten years and even got me to do it one year.
Unfortunately pre Strava days so I cant help there.
If I remember correctly the biggest climb was out of Escort but there are rolling hills most of the way and at that time of the year you may have thunderstorms in the afternoon and wind
We had one just as we were going down Olivershoek Pass.
Then there are the Murati trails between Stellenbosch and Klapmuts
The Wannebees club do rides in the vineyards on both sides of the R44 below Stellenrust Road during the week and weekends.
Look on their facebook or website for contact details. You would have to buy a day permit to ride with them.
yeah, those sierra drivers are all driving Fortuners now
Some of us now drive a Subaru
Did a ride yesterday afternoon. Looks like the Harrier hawk is back at it in the river section.
Got a proper scare when I was dive bombed by this stealthy bird.
Beware!
I think it's a black sparrowhawk for last year's comments. It sometimes comes and pays a visit to our eastate. It is much bigger than I imagined.
Others already answered on it's identification
