@love2fly ever considered getting a garmin wearable. This way you will alway have a gps unit on you should i you forget the head unit. And then when the 530 dies, you can replace it with the latest device. These devices keep getting better, so why try prolong the life of two aged devices when you can get the latest with all the fancy garmin insights?
Anything IPx7 or lower I kill off in a matter of months. These are not designed for continual water exposure, let alone salty corroding sweat. If you are on a trainer or doing endurance sport, small amounts of daily ingress will be the end of the earphones. IPx8 is designed for continual water exposure (just not forced/pressure).

These cassettes yes, but I’m referring to the concept of the wide range cassettes. These came about when SRAM launched the 10-42. My reading of the OPs question is that he believes a wide range cassette is an upgrade. It’s only an upgrade in the correct circumstances, and highly unlikely to be beneficial with a 3x
What makes you think an 11-42 is an upgrade? Wide cassettes were designed for a 1x setup. With your 3x, I think this would be more frustrating than beneficial
I suspect they might be rare as hen’s teeth
I did read somewhere here on the hub that a boost front hub will work-a boost from hub is 110x15, which is the same as predictive steering hub, so it seems reasonable

in fact the organizers should view it as great compliment we even both to try and resolve this and hopefully change the policy allowing more entries to be sold!!
1) we want to spend R12 000 plus a person
2) we all know well there are plenty good races these days and many at half the cost
3)Entry’s are down tremendously with inflation and other issues, here we saying more will ride - constructive input
Goodness me you must be California?
The opening question was very much a demand, as opposed to a friendly enquiry. Followed up by accusations that the organisers are inconsiderate. Also, you make it sound as if your suggestion is some novel idea that the organisers had not thought about before. They are well aware that the weekend race suits most people best, but they have their reasons for structuring the events as they do.
I was not defensive at all, I made an attacking comment. And I am actually a South African

Let’s get to the fact that the Cape cycle race had a 18% effective Ebike Entry this year! . That was mountain bikes, as well as road bikes, which were E powered. 22% of all bikes sold over the past year over R50000 are now Ebikes
For my team and club to do the adventure 10 teammates the timing is not correct as we lose an “entire week of business” !
So we asking is it possible that we could do that ( 2nd race ) Adventure or (3rd final race) Race = we do not care if we don’t get a a placement or for that matter, we do not care if we are regarded as “did not finish” but all we interested in is riding the race and having fun. We’re going to be nowhere near the front!!
Inconsiderate indeed, of the race organizers. I hope someone else will come up with a race at the same or similar time more suitable over the weekend on a three day race that Ebikes are allowed.
With an attitude like this, I truly hope the event organisers don’t consider your request
For all the technically blessed riders caught behind people walking single track, maybe you should work on your cardio and speed and get into the single track before the walkers.
I’m pretty sure these walkers probably think the technical riders are holding up the show while they try cruise past them on the district roads.
Hi vs low spec is hardly going to come down to just chain, disks and hubs being different. It would be more like fork, drivetrain, complete wheels, etc
Still don’t think you were misled by the advertising. Chains and disks are often substituted with what is available.
And there is no basis to assume you have inferior hubs just because you don’t see shimano branding

Seeding should be a mix of fitness and skill ability, but hey, Dream world I guess
Seeding takes into account winner race time vs individual race time. Your race time is determined by fitness and ability, and since it does factor in winning time, there is also an element of how technical the race is

just replace the hub get one with the same flange size then you can use the same spokes just replace the spoke nipples with new ones
Maybe the hub is out of stock with no imminent availability, and there aren’t other options with the same flange and spoke count.
Given the age of the spokes, it may be best to replace all of them while building up the wheel.
Stans Arch mk3 are notorious for cracking round the spoke opening.
Better understand the issues on hand before just saying find a new LBS

If they have derestricted their bikes, it’s the least they can do
Who cares if the bike is chipped? Battery size is the issue. A chipped bike vs a standard bike on a 500w battery both have the same power to deploy over the same distance.
A bigger battery or spare battery is a bigger benefit.
There are at least two sides to strava-the social aspect (group rides, pictures, kudos, etc)
There is then the fitness/health side where you can analyse your activity, heart rate, effort, etc (which is mostly under the paid option)
Anyone with a modern Garmin has access to the same, if not better data in Garmin connect. The paid strava makes sense for those people who actually use the strava app to record activities, or have a lesser gps watch/headunit

but, it’s a challenge for me, my monthly average is 500km, so to do it in a week is my challenge.
there is no other time in the year that is practical to take a week off work, primarily to do a cycling challenge disguised as taking leave for family
In a construed way, my message is supportive. For get about the rapha aspect. You could set yourself a challenge if 200km during a busy week work. The idea is to challenge yourself, motivate yourself. It doesn’t need to be a corporate’s idea of a challenge
33 minutes ago, Michael Dewing said:I hear you.
.. I however didn’t care that it was Rapha.. was more interested in taking on the challenge with my good mate and talking about it on here with the rest of the community.. I haven’t even redeemed the reward and will probably never purchase Rapha..
which is my point-do it because you want to challenge yourself. So many people get caught up in trying to get to the 500, they forget about having fun. It sounds like you remembered the fun aspect
1 hour ago, The Ouzo said:Im abandoning the challenge. Body is just to sore.
I know (I think ) where I went wrong, so will take up the Festive 500 in December again.
it was challenging, it was hard, it was fun.
This is not a challenge, it’s a marketing campaign. If it was truly a challenge, there would be other requirements, such as minimum elevation, minimum speed, must be done in no more than x number of rides.
When you are feeling fit and good, set your own challenge, call it the Ouzo300/400/500/1000 or whatever you want, and go for it. No need to wait for the next marketing campaign

It easily lasts 20km, probably could do 40km if used economically. I ride a lot of offroad track and the big wheels, fat tyres and motor make it feel fast, a bit like a offroad motorbike. I covered the words "ebike" with tape, and, because the battery is in the tube, no one can see it's electric. Roadies are amazed at how fast a huge heavy mountain bike with me on is. I'm glad no one else has discovered just how good this cheap bike is, because there aren't many in stock and I am going to buy a second one (for Jhb, my one is in CT).
Is this some comic relief?
It’s so much easier getting the 500km in when you are just happy to be riding and not caring about the challenge. And if you fall short, you are still happy because you were able to ride and be happy.
So many giveaways it’s a scam…
driver’s side -> should be drive side
Delayed pop -> they always seem to be able to push back and give a time, as if they have any control over this
lawyers drawing up a contract -> if this is what they do, they will have a standard contract they just complete for each sale
giving company registration docs -> a step too far in trying to make it look legitimate
