  1. This makes me sick. A miscarriage of justice indeed.

I think some consolation for the families would be to sue the SAPS and Justice Minister for the incompetence and bungling of the case.

Really, a sad day for justice....

And a class action law suite from the families against the killer for all loss and pain suffered?

  2. I love this forum, I have a connection with a lot of members on here and I have been around for a long time.

The problem is that Im an impostor really. Its been over a year since I rode one of my bikes, and probably closer to two years.

Does that mean I dont love cycling? No not really, I still keep up to date with everything and love reading about what everyone else is doing.

The reality is that I go through seasons.

At some stages Im a die hard cyclist, at others Im a runner, then I switch to tech or woodworking.

I have been immensely supported by amazing woodworkers on this forum in the woodwork thread and those members kept me trying to achieve more with their encouragement.

I have even had my marriage saved by a forum member who dragged me through one of the darkest times of my life, and I will always be in his debt for that.

One thing never changes though, I cant give up the people who make this forum a place I keep coming back to every day.

So am I alone in this? are there others who still hang around here despite not actually riding their bikes?

You are not alone. My beloved 2013 hand-me-down Silverback Dual is kaput. I did at least 2 races every month - I have not cycled the last 10 months. I do not have the financial means to replace it.

Am I an imposter? It sure feels so. I still shave my legs...

  3. Hi. Has anyone gone the Openserve route with Telkom? How is the LIT TV Box? Is it compatible with all LED tv's? I do not have a smart tv - only LED HD flatscreens

  4. "The writer counted, in the space of only four minutes, 93 native cyclists riding past the Astra theatre,” wrote a journalist for the Star newspaper in July 1940. Standing almost 80 years later on the same corner of Louis Botha Avenue at the same time and day of the week – 6.30pm on a Monday – it is hard to imagine. The theatre is long gone and not a single cyclist is to be seen on the car-choked thoroughfare.

What happened to Johannesburg’s once vibrant commuter cycling culture? The dominance of the automobile marginalised the bicycle in many cities around the world through the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s but that process was accelerated in South Africa by apartheid. When policies of spatial segregation forcibly moved black people to faraway townships at the periphery of the city, the distance between work and home increased dramatically and cycling collapsed as an everyday practice.

Twenty-five years after apartheid’s fall, those spatial and economic inequalities remain entrenched in the city and continue to shape how people get around.

It may be said of the Johannesburg child that he learns to cycle before he can walk 1903 newspaper columnist

The story of Johannesburg starts in 1886 with the discovery of gold. As prospectors from around the world flooded in to seek their fortunes, what had once been farmland was transformed in the space of a few years into a thriving city.

  5. She misjudged the number of laps and went hell for leather on the second last lap thinking it was the last... Raised the hand over the finish and literally collapsed only to realise she had another lap to go

Ag no. That is an honest mistake to make. Unlike that other lady that celebrated her win with Vos (?) passing her on the line.

  6. You are looking for anyone of these K1s, a Javelin or Yeti. You need a fair amount of balance for a Jacana. Balance is going to be your first challenge and you need to invest time to get it. Here's my formula for a novice once you have your boat you need to dedicate about 8 hours over a two week period in sessions not exceeding 45min. When you get to the water take the seat out to lower the centre of gravity start off in shallow water where the boat just floats with you in it. Give it a try but don't pull too hard on the paddle (oars are for rowing boats and houses of ill repute) a hard stroke will shift your balance and you will fall in. Don't despair all of us fall in and you will not be an exception. When you do fall in leave about 75-100mm in the boat to lower your centre of gravity even further and go for it again. Keeping your head straight is the key to balance, look straight ahead at all times and allow your torso to move when paddling. Good luck.

Thanks for the great advice. I will keep it in mind

  7. Rowing or paddling?

Thanks, didn't realize there is a difference. Best way to explain - Hank Mcgregor on open flat water (LOL). I am a complete novice - it has been double-digit years since I was last near a canoe/kayak. I stay now in an estate in Harties right by the water. And it is calling

  8. Howzit guys. What would you suggest for flat water/dam rowing? There is very little info on the interweb about rowing.

I came across the Jacana K1. Is this worth it?

  9. I drove one today at the dealership in Strijdompark.

It had 19k on the clock and it had clutch shudder. Scared me off.

I also looked at a Kia Rio. Same problems.

Then I went across the road to VW and drove a new Polo. F0kkit. Chalk and cheese.

Same price as the Korean cr@p, just light years ahead them. Guess I've never got the VW bug out of me. Will be looking for a sharper pencil from the volksie salesman on Monday

Exactly my experience, the following week I had the base VW Polo Vivo hatch as rental. Man, it just felt so familiar. The gear ratios, the accelaration when needed, road holding, the interior....

Anyway, each have their preferences. Good luck with the decission you have to make. If you not happu with the salesman, speak to his principle. If still not happy, take it up with the big bosses. Even throw in some social media....

  10. Me too.

I only need to get around to see clients and I don't need absolute luxury to do that.

The i20 looks like a cool little car but I heard the new ones have a *** gearbox?

The Kia Rio also seems to be a lekker tjorrie

I would stay clear of the i20. I drove one the other day as a rental. It had 15000km on, the clutch was crap. The gear ratio's are very short between 1-2,2-3. You need to ref it hard to get some power from it. And at 120km/h it is loose on the road

  11. Good day. I was previously employed in the life insurance sector at a large insurance house only for a year and a bit. I resigned on 15 December 2018. This week I found out that my resignation was never processed, and only went through in May 2019.

There is a loan that was made to me for a laptop, and certain employee benefits were debitted during my employment. These were still debitted, and accumulated interest until May. They want me to sign Acknowledgement of Debt without re-calculating/crediting what has accumulated until May.

    What action can I take?

  12. Alternatively, he has tested positive yet again. And has been forced to withdraw/retire. The team then decided to fake a crash. Pretty much the same as the mysterious illness Pierre Spies had back in the day when he just disappeared from the rugby scene...

The above photo just shows he has an eina elbow. No IV, no monitor, no neckbrace... you would expect someone that has broken so many bones as they say he did, to have multiple bruises and scrapes.
