  1. Start off with a No 4 or 5. There's really no need to own every plane size. A #7 is a jointer plane. If you're not edge joining long boards or flattening big table tops it's really redundant. Look for pre-WW2 Stanley USA planes. They're the actual collectors items. Otherwise the Record planes are better than the later (>40's) Stanley US and England planes. Also, don't spend too much on an old plane, including your labour to restore it. Time spent restoring old tools is time that could be spent on building something, and learning from it. But restore at least one plane - it'll help you to learn more about the tool and to get the most out of it. Hand tools are pretty useless if they're not sharp, so factor in a decent stone as well, like those 1000/6000 ceramic stones.
  2. Doing snatches with previous back injuries you were looking for ***. It's one exercise I'll also never do again, since my shoulder injury. Which I also happen to dislocate again a few weeks ago. "luckily" i caught the flu, so I can't try to rush recovery. But I'm at the point of giving up cycling; tennis elbow, ulnar nerve pinching and a messed up shoulder see me off the bike basically since Feb.
  3. Table saw will be the easiest. But hand tools will work just as well. A hand saw, a steady hand, and cut to size. Then finesse to final dimension/accuracy with a hand plane and/or sanding block (glue some sanding paper to a flat surface like a granite top).
  4. It’s essentially a horst link design, but they circumvented the patent rights by adding the so-called 4 by linkage between the seatstay and the rocker link. Specialized owns the patent to the horst link design and you’d have to pay royalties to them if you wanted to use it. Well up until its recent patent expiry. That extra linkage in the Knolly serves no other purpose, unless you want to believe their marketing bs and are a fan of unnecessary added complexity and weight.
  5. yeah, they can try put whatever bs spin on those linkage design, in the end of the day it's just an unnecessary/useless design to get past the spez patent.
  6. Wait is this some sort of joke I'm too privileged to understand.
  7. All those bench top table saws are the same., although I think the Dewalt might be the better of the lot. With some effort you can have a decent saw that will be good for the majority of diy jobs. It all depends on what you want to do with it. The odd job now and again doesn’t justify spending more on it. I’d personally look for a decent 2nd hand cabinet style saw in the classifieds if you’re on a budget and are looking at something for more than just pallet and plywood furniture. The functionality of a table saw goes beyond just rip cuts. With sleds and jigs you don’t need a mitre saw so it does make sense to buy the best saw you can afford or even stretch your budget.
  8. I also didn't 'catch' the meme the first time I saw it. My first thought was that who looks at their cards in such a way that anyone would be able to see it in a sunglasses' reflection. Probably the same rookies that pick up their cards as soon as the dealer drops it.
  9. That's like saying herpes is better than syphilis.
  10. There are some very clever designs on youtube for inspiration that can offer the same ease of use as normal table saw. With diy, you can always over-engineer it. It all just depends on your level of commitment and skill with limited tools. The benefit with that is it can double up as a work bench if space is a limiting factor. With these cheap and nasty tools/machinery you are very often stuck with a cheap product - being unable to set up the mitre rails parallel to the blade, and wonky fences etc. Not to mention run-out on arbors and overall cheap build quality. Those 1800w motors bog down like a boat anchor at the first sight of any hardwood plank. Alternatively, look on gumtree for an old tablesaw, like a rockwell delta - could be had for around R5k or less if you can drive a hard bargain.
  11. I'd rather just mount a decent circular saw to a board before I buy that.
  12. Amazon is probably your easiest option; https://www.amazon.com/d/Furniture-Legs/Mounting-Furniture-Attachment-Industrial-Strength/B071DJQFY5 $<20 all incl. I wouldn't even bother driving around looking for a shop that might stock it.
  13. Urgh. Seriously? You’re joking right? You do know that these “scientists” that are spending billions, were also responsible for developing the www (the platform you’re using right now to bitch about them) while working on the CERN LHC. The thing that practically revolutionized the last 20-30 years. And that was just a “by-product” of a project far bigger that the world wide web.
  14. Yes, i know that. It was a joke.
  15. Looks more like they used an old blackberry to take the shot.
  16. he apparently bought 3 times that.
  17. What's Banggood's shipping like?
  18. Got the Nvidia shield. Works great, although I've probably spent a total of 10 min playing games. Not a gamer. Needed the extra USB connections for HDD and USB DAC output. Also, a wired LAN connection is a must imho. Wireless will always have some issues down the line and I don't have the patience to deal with that. It's also nice to access network drives.
  19. No, my calves are smaller
  20. Like most things, a strong posterior chain will benefit you more than having an aesthetic anterior physique. If you're not going full out strength training, at least do some bent-over rows, romanian dead lifts. 15 min on those stepper machines also helps for endurance as you can target glutes and hammies on it depending on your positioning. I probably do core once a year, and when I do it's just to make sure I can still do a set of 10 of these;
  21. Now just add some sharks.
  22. Drill and a file can do the job. Minus the lathe precision.
  23. Will probably become the standard spec fork we’ll see R80k carbon bikes.
  24. Not all heroes wear capes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Kans is groter dat sy gaan verstik aan `n emmer vol kollageen.
