  1. I rode to school with my daughter in December. Nice outing I thought..................she fell in front of me, I went over her and my bars and broke my arm. 9 months later, I still cannot straighten my arm. Cycling to school is dangerous
  2. I bought a Raleigh seat from Makro for R299. Both my kids loved it. Nothing fancy, but what I liked was the raised sides (it will protect the child in a fall). I even entered a few short races with them on the back. Just make sure you get a helmet to go with it.
  3. R300 is cheap. That won't even buy burgers for a family of 4 at the Spur. A friend of mine made something similar to load his bike onto a trailer. The thing broke and all he saw in his mirror was his carbon Specialized bouncing down the road. Rather get the proper thing and pay R300
  4. From what I've heard (and i could be wrong), Chainreaction Cycles will cover the cost of transport on any warranty related claims. If a company in the UK can cover the costs to SA, why can't a Cape Town company cover the costs to Durban. And they still complain when people buy from CRC and not local.
  5. I would, but I won't.
  6. I've had mine for years. I've learned to live with it. It normally flares up with a long ride on my road bike or if I do a step class at gym. I stretch it a lot before and after excersise which does help
  7. Get your other half a new one. There is nothing better than getting a new bike. For R5k, you won't get much, but it will probably be fine for her. Look at Axis, Momsen and Titan. They are normally a bit more than your budget, but you may get a good deal considering the impending release of the 2015 bikes. Sportman's wharehouse were selling 650b Schwinns for R5500.
  8. Keep the XTR, they cost a fortune nowdays.......save up and buy the duel frame that you wanted and build the XTR on to it. The only parts of XTR you need to maintain is the cassette and chain. Once they are worn, there is nothing to stop you replacing those parts with SLX or Deore.
  9. Buy a second hand one and then resell it at the end of the 9 months. If you buy right, you could end up making a profit or at least break even
  10. Raleigh 4000? If I'm not mistaken that is a Time Trial frame. It will still serve as a road bike, but you might be a bit uncomortable on it.
  11. You get Campagnola, Campac, Fugi Bikes and Shimano Allegro. I just wish people could read what is written on the side of their products
  12. You can buy adaptors. I got one for free a few years ago from another hubber. I'm sure a bike shop will sell them.
  13. Silverback..........best after sales service in SA
  14. Take it back and let them replace under warranty. Even if it just the paint that has cracked.
  15. I also had a telescopic pump that has just vanished into thin air. I must say, I did not enjoy it. The volume was great but it felt as if it was going to fall apart each pump stroke. The lever felt way to long (if that makes any sense)
  16. Madone, Domane, Emonda Nothing more than a hash of the same letters
  17. Good to see the brakes are back in the right place.
  18. PE did host a round of the Engen series, but the entries to the event was nothing short of dismal. That is why they cancelled. In our defence though, the pros failed to support the PE round, although they supported the other centres.
  19. He only posted it on Gumtree to justify keeping the bike. If no body comes forward, he can say that he tried and then boast to his buddies the bargain he got. Surely, he should have realised that buying a bike from someone "next to the Seven 11" is suspicious in itself.
  20. I'm not sure if this would work, but it could be worth a try. Get hold of some white housing (a lot more common than purple) and soak them in purple dylon dye. I've heard of people using dylon to colour anodised aluminium parts. If it can work on aluminium, it should work on plastic. Just keep the ends above the water line so that the dye does not enter the cables. You can always cut those parts off.
  21. I was hit by a car. The driver claimed full responsibility until my insurers wanted the money back from her insurers. Anyway, after a lot of negotiations, her insurers paid my insurers 85% of the bike's damage. According to Indwe's legal team, 85% was a lot. They would have settled on 65%.
  22. A work colleague was in a similar situation. A guy jumped a stop street and hit her. Her matter ended up in court. The magistrate ruled that she did not take the correct evasive action and apportioned the blame 60/40. Fortunately her insurance sorted the issue out (including the 40% liability to his car). So yes, there is such a thing as partial blame
  23. Not more than R1 000
  24. Axis only came on to the market 2 or 3 years ago. The bike might still be under warranty. If the fork is sticking and he hasn't done much riding, there must be some kind of fault.
  25. South African law provides that there must be a 6month warranty on every item sold.
