- Retail hours suck

- Working over weekends sucks even more

- Time for cycling has decreased dramatically

- Too tired/not motivated to get up early to cycle plus to tackle a 10-hour shift

- My feet are killing me, need to get more comfortable shoes

- Shopping Malls lacks safe, secure parking for bicycles

- On your off days, you just want to sleep and relax

- Maybe considering taking up jogging again to at least get some sort of exercising into my routine.

EDIT: Just have to adapt and wake up early for morning loops before work.

Naa, I cant sit at home after spending 6 days of the week cooped up inside. I need to get for a ride, fish, hike or whatever.

being FIT is the ONLY way to improve your chances of coping with the long hours ...

The WORST situation : long hours + not practicing due to long hours = not fit enough to manage the long hours ... even more tired and even less "Capable" of practicing ....

I recall a study on stress and why some people deal with it better than others. The long and the short of it was that one of the main things that made the difference, was how much regular physical exercise they got or not.

My commute is the only thing that is keeping me sane. Work stress under current economics getting hard to handle. Positions are not getting filed witch is putting higher workload on me. I am in retail and December is just starting. Feel your pain.

Just keep riding!

Thank you for all your input guys.

Luckily I have an awesome club (SportsWorld) who organises rides each morning.

Joined the ride this morning. Was tough, I could feel I lost a bit of fitness but nothing major.

Now to finish my coffee and go tackle the day ahead!

Safe commuting.

Those ^#^#$& who throw beer bottles on the cycle lane should be dragged naked over the glass and tar.

Got a decent slash in my tyre this morning and punctured.

Fixed it and a few meters later the tube popped out through the hole ... puncture no. 2.

Patched the inside of the tyre and put in a new tube, all good.

Stop at the coffee spot and when I get to my bike again some ^#^&$%*&$%& box stole my front light off my bike.

Needless to say I am a little #Y^%&$#&% and ##^%^%&$ today.

This might have been covered in the previous 224 pages, but what is the best way to plan a route to work? I am considering starting commuting in the new year, but the actual route to take is still the big unknown at the moment.

jump onto google maps, put in start and end destinations. Then select avoid highways.

Get the route and then drive it to be sure.

Awesome thanks, looks like a 20 km ride each way. So I will try the leave the car at work thing first and then take it from there. Hopefully push me past my current weekend warrior status.

The last few times I moved office, I went to ride the route on a Suturday afternoon to see how long it takes and what the road surface and pavements look like.

Sorry to hear that, I've raised a defect to the COCT before via their website to get certain glass infested areas cleaned up, maybe try that.

also take into consideration that the same route can change dramatically depending on the time of day you use it, i.e., an early morning commute to work with very little traffic can turn into a return home commute in rush hour traffic.
