And, while it could've been said in jest, it's pretty insensitive considering who many two-wheel lovers get killed on the roads.

EISH, not a nice thing to say, especially when coming from the chairman of a road safety campaign!

Yeah, as insensitive as the OP on this thread's comments. Sure, take into account that Stranger represents a body, but people are still people, and sometimes say the wrong thing. Doesn't mean that one remark defines them.

Personally...

I hate all bikers whilst they are on their bikes... I hate all taxi drivers whilst they are in their taxi's...

...and I hate all cyclists who ride abreast when there is no space... I hate that MNET teaser where Ashleigh Hayden speaks like she cannot breathewacko.gif

Hate is a harsh word- sorry! ...just sounds more dramatic than "dont trust" blush.gif

Dangerdassie was correct at some point we are all idiots on the road no matter what form of machine we use...

out of all of these.. the biggest idiots are us cyclists! Yes we have rights to the road... but think about this for a second:YOU HAVE NO PROTECTION!

A car... a small car weighs about 1 ton??? travelling at 50km/h faster than you(and what about traveling towards you!!!)... think about your odds... does not matter if the driver was a tosser-you are in ICU... just because you had equal rights to the road... good for you- you showed them??unsure.gif

When you go into the bush.. you respect the bush... you are there at your own peril... nature is not fair... be prepared for anything... calculate the risk of your actions... But somehow when people come into "civilization" they stop respecting the "bush".

To allof you cyclists who ride on the road... you are a brave bunch of people... please be careful.. stay ever alert and BE AFRAID OF BIG SHINY THINGS THAT ARE HEAVIER AND FASTER THAN YOU!!! Let them be right! So long as you are Alive and Safe!!thumbup1.gifthumbup1.gifthumbup1.gifthumbup1.gif

Good old motorbikes - the things we love to hate :)

On the one hand they help keep us safe during races and on the other hand they buzz us for a quick thrill. The difference between the two bikes is the rider - one is helpful - the other is a tool.

Me - I'd love to own a motorbike but never will - it's far too easy to twist the throttle and bash 200+ in a matter of seconds - hell I reckon 90% of cyclists would happily ride at 80kph all day and night if their legs could hold out.

I get my jollies on and offroad bike and thats fine for me - when you crash on those it's generally not too fast, you have apprporiate gear own and always my own fault. Mtb - same thing only slower and little to no safety gear!

It's not about the bike - it's about the rider! A tool is a tool regardless of what he's riding...

The op touches a topic which affects our roads country wide.

I have now come to the conclusion that some motorcyclists are worse than a road hog in a Ford F650.

They wear their Think Bike coats and have stickers plastered on their bike demanding respect when in real life they actually are pretty selfish and only care about themselves and their own safety.

I will even go as far as to say it's a South African thing and the term "windgat" springs to mind.

I was in Germany last week (thanks to a supplier  ) and their is a totally different ethos and approach to road usage there, South Africans are windgat and impatient.

It was pretty exciting sitting on a stretch of road at a 190 km's per hour and a Lamborghini passed us like we were looking for parking with a Subaru behind him and an AMG on his back.

+1

(Oh, I broke a rental car at about 190km/h on an autobahn once. True story.)

Reading the comments I'm worried it might be an imposter... not the style of reply I remember from him :-P .

Let me try again.

Slowpoke, gaan k@k in die mielies.

How am I doing so far?

Well said TNT1 and very true. Keep in mind that our friend Pieman is a staunch anti ThinkBike man and as such will latch onto the tiniest little stick to beat the doggie.

As I learnt from you dear AMZ. From the person who was completely against TB, who was ALWAYS moaning about the marshals, to the biggest convert the moment he got elected to the board of directors. And as for me being anti TB, not at all. Anti the power in charge, YES! And it's comments like this by the Chairman of your board, and the defense thereof by another director, yourself, that makes me wonder.

Your comment paints a pretty good picture of the example of windgat I was referring to.

Think bike and Helivac are not the same, unless I am missing something.

Your abrasiveness makes a clear example of the individual that becomes a nuicance on the road.

I said SOME motorcyclists and not all, you are the one who decided to generalize.

Lay off the Camels, somewhere inside of you there is a person who for once would want to make pleasant and constructive comments.

deja vu

this thread was repeated on another two-wheel related forum.

it also started with some-one commenting on the Think Bike Campaign in general.

Then the think-bikers jumped into the thread, and it went from constructive to childish in two seconds flat (much like a super bike I suppose.)

It seems that criticism is attacked, and not taken into consideration, to construct an effective future campaign.

when I place s ticker on my car/bike or wear clothing advertising a certain something, I try and do my best to not bring down the image of said something.

It's easy to say: "we have no control over who does what when they place that sticker on their car/bike". I say

rather select who you hand your stickers out to.. after all it is a campaign to promote safety for bikers and cyclists alike.

In this case not all publicity is good publicity.
