Hou die rubber op die grond!

Are those Russian Hamsters? I had one, a female. After a while she went moggy and I had to give her away.

Russian hamsters, eish I don't know, thought they were cross-bred with a veldmuis. [emoji23]

Correct.

years ago, when the boys were little, we had one called Sugar. It convinced me that they were a lot smarter than what I gave any "mouse" credit for. It was so active at night, running in its wheel, making noise, that we had to move it to the kitchen, far away from the bedrooms. It was usually asleep and hidden in its nest of sawdust every morning when we got downstairs to the kitchen, but it immediately came out, stood on its hind legs holding the bars of its cage with its front paws, just like a convict in jail. This it did every day because it knew we would give it a little bit of freshly made oats porridge. He wasn't at all afraid of the cat and I sometimes thought he intentionally teased Rufus because he knew he was safe. I never thought I would describe a hamster as having character, but he sure had that to spare! Despite being much more of a dog person, I got to love the little guy dearly.

I too had one a very long time ago.

He was like an attack dog when in his cage and beware anyone who stuck a finger through the bars, the little bugger would draw blood. But once out the cage he would be completely calm.

This little guy was an escape artist of note and early one morning when on my way out for a ride I noticed that the top of the cage was open the he was nowhere to be found. Now the cage lived on top of the kitchen counter right at the end in the corner next to the back door. So the only options were he was on the kitchen floor somewhere, the dogs had got him or he was still on the counter. Floor was ruled out and dogs where still asleep so there was hope, I started along the counter past the frying pan, snackwich maker, toaster, stove and still nothing. There was a small ledge running behind the breakfast nook that joined the two counters and then there on the other side in the fruit bowl happily munching his way into a Paw Paw was the little bugger.

To this day I still can't figure out how he made it all the way around the kitchen and into the fruit bowl which was about 4 times his height.

We decided on Boela. He is almost 7weeks old and already weigh over 6kg. I suspect we are going to have our hands full with him...

His mom developed a serious case of mastitis (spelling?) where her teats burst open. She couldn't feed them from 4weeks on. The vet put them on some special feed, hence we got him a little earlier

Was just wondering the other day how scar and the others are doing, scar looks good

He's a very happy and boisterous boy! He nearly knocks me off my feet from excitement when I get home everyday. He's settled in nicely with our elderly Jack Russell, and our 3 cats keep him in line (he gets regular slaps if he gets too close) :)

I'm completely and utterly in love with the mutt and can't really remember life before him.

I should ask IanJ if he can maybe put an update on all of the others on the Barry thread. It'll be nice to know how they're doing.
