Indeed, but my view on quotas is that they exist, so quota players exist as well. You get quota players that are there on merit too. Beast is one of them, but in saying that, he is not our strongest scrummer. I would have Beast come off the bench rather than Kitshoff as Beast adds more in lose play.

not a chance! The Ginger Ninja is better than the Beast in all aspects of the game at the moment. (and has been for a while)

Me and my mate joked it was the only time the ball ever left his hands...

I do not see why coaches pick him, must be incredibly frustrating playing outside of him - hard to judge Am at all on these two games as he didn't get a sniff.

Hopefully Rassies sees through De Allende quickly and we get to utilize our backline on the odd occasion heading forward. That said I do think our team was largely picked to counter the English style of rugby, but we'll need to step it up plenty heading forward. Not that that's anything new though

Solid start to the new regime, good to see some pride and passion back - long may it continue

We might benefit with trying something unorthodox, but which have been done before: NZ played Dan Carter at inside centre for a while outside the incumbent at the time (Might have been King Carlos or one of those legends). And Luke McCalister played inside centre outside Dan Carter for a while.

Might we benefit with a player who is a flyhalf at heart with the tactical mindset, but yet with proper upper body strength to challenge the line...?

For arguments sake, playing Handre Pollard at inside centre if you want to give another proper flyhalf a chance at 10, could get interesting very quickly.

That said, I don't have a name to throw into the hat to take over from Pollard at 10 at the moment

Carter played inside centre next to Stephen Donald for a while as well.

Gave them left and right food options as well.

Carter is a rock solid defender as well though

With a world cup next year:

Pollard has to be #1 flyhalf

 - I don't think Jantjies is ever going to be a banker for the boks, way too much King Carlos (who played for the all blacks for 10 years, but never won a WC)

Goosen is a possibility, but would have to have a really good season

lots of youngsters showing potential, but I don't see any of them doing more than Pollard in the next 15 months.

Great game by the French against NZ, they kept on fighting with 14 players on the pitch. I see the red card will be rescinded after a review. Was a stupid call that should never have happened.

Interesting call on the red card, and I get why everybody say it's unfair but I'm feeling contrarian about it...

The way I see it, if your flyhalf kicks an up-n-under and you are chasing, you should know full well that by the time the ball gets close to the ground an opposition player will be under it jumping up to catch it. You cannot just keep your eye on the ball storm downfield and leap in the air hoping for the best, you have to be aware of the opposition player that WILL be there and that your momentum WILL likely take him out if you misjudge your leap.

So fair call imo.

Nope, its exactly what happened - just watched it again on Youtube  :P

But on my google search I also saw the red card has been rescinded so World Rugby disagree with my opinion ;) . I still say that is the risk you take chasing blindly after up and unders, there will be an opponent beneath them..

Cant just have eyes on the ball, you have to also get into the air. So it was the correct call.

Interference though from NZ number 13 changes his momentum and I think this is why they cancelled the red card.

Only way to really make sure of player safety is if they dont allow aerial contest.

All that being said though it doesn't change the outcome of the game.

I learnt on Saturday that the Irish win was the first win on Australian soil since 1975!!.. Now for a series win... They really should do it.. No excuses as they are the better team at present

Ok so job done. We have an unassailable series lead. I’d like to see a few changes for the Newlands test.

Kitshoff in place of Beast (gingers should be considered as quota players too [emoji6])

Kriel in place of De Allende

Steyn in place of Le Roux

Steyn never made it onto a plane and is still in France.

Die Lang ellende should be replaced by Esterhuyzen.

I’m also going to predict a possible start for Jantjies and Brits. I’m a lions supporter and don’t even want Jantjies to start in SuperRugby but I’m predicting a “combination” shot for him. He was at his best when starting with Faf.
