Please help me guys.

I have this old really entry level machine that I pulled out the cupboard, as I am tired of the stale pods I have recently gotten from Nespresso. I have been doing some homework and I'm struggling to pull the perfect shot. I have made a pretty decent puck and let it run for the apparent "25 sec" time but instead of a shot I almost get a cup full of burnt coffee. Any help would be great

Your grind is not fine enough, also check that you're dosing enough coffee and that your tamp pressure is sufficient. Work on these variables until you get a well timed shot with the correct volume. One of those shot glasses with measurements are also great for dialling in the grinder.

Hey Cadence,

I bought the coffee from the roasters and I specified that I wanted espresso grind. I'm hoping that my grind is right so I will try get a better tamper. Are there any other possible variables that I'm missing?

The grind setting on the machine also depends on the beans, and to a smaller extent the machine you have...

I had one of those.

Throw all know practices out the Window.

Get your grind fine and tamper the hell out of it. Don't go the full timed routine, rather watch the shotS colour. When going a straw colour, shut that puppy off.

Rather a smaller shot with better flavour vs a burnt out diluted muck.

Also toss that Black rubber on the steam wand, walk after it and find it.....Then toss it even further away.

Just experiment with the machine until you find what works well.

That little Russell and Hobbs served us well enough. ......But practice and experience with the machine is required.

Best wishes.

Thanks a mil for the feedback guys, managed a half decent cup last night although the counter was covered in milk and water overflow from the machine when I was done :cursing: .

I'm looking for a milk pitcher I assume a 600ml one should be enough to make two cups of coffee? Any suggestions of places in and around Gauteng, Pretoria even better as I want to tackle this machine this week still.

And how much milk should I chuck in the jug?

Sorry very newbie questions
