Coffee machine

Recommended Posts

So new predicament, just bought a new house and my coffee machine and grinder don’t fit anywhere! Built in cupboards to low so height of machine is an issue. Maybe my equipment is overkill, la Cimbali grinder and San Marco pract-e machine.

Should I go the super- automatic route and sell these or just build a shelf. Had a super automatic before, but hell I also like the whole portafilter and steam wand thing. Plus I’ve trained my kids

There is no way that I'll regress to a super auto machine. Time to buy a jigsaw. It's cheaper than a coffee machine...

Leaving my current place I call home and have to sadly leave the Jura BTC Coffee Machine as it doesn't belong to me

What's the best option for a low budget? Drink mostly espresso's with the odd almond milk cuppacino (milk doesn't agree with me)

Aeropress and a good hand grinder.... won't do the capp but does an espresso analog very well.

Keep the grinder and machine and sell the house? :-)

Or build a shelf. I don't think you will enjoy a super-automatic as much if you like the whole process of making espresso with the combo you have.

Awesome, got the go ahead on the shelf building project ????????! Grinder project is a new one ????

Yesterday my Jura told me the water filter needed replacing. I looked in the manual and it says they need replacing every 50 litres or 2 months. Sounds excessive to me. I am going to get a new filter and fit it as I don't know how old the one fitted is but I am wondering if next time I can stretch the filters life?(If I just tell the machine I have fitted a new filter the message should go away?) Takealot have them for R225.

Anyone else with a Jura, what do you do?

Depends on the hardness of the water.

Dude how long have you been married???

LOL I knew someone would go below the belt, opened myself up to that. But probably for about as long as I have known you. Joined the club around the same time I got married.

Build yourself a rolling server cart with water and drain containers - I kind of have to do this as an interim step while I repurpose rooms in the house so I can migrate my new machine to a dedicated water and drain supply (which exist but have never been used) - it doesn't fit under the kitchen cupboards - which has long been an issue for my big grinder but now the machine does not fit either. (ok - it does fit with the cup tray surround off - but I have not been able to turn it off so my cupboard survives a while longer - it's supposed to be a software feature but....

How would I tell how hard my water is?

If you don’t have one, invest in an under counter water filter (a single filter is good enough, with a KDF filter). This will remove most of the heavy metals added to the water, and some other chemicals.

Every time your machine heats up water, you get scale build up. This is part of the heating process and nothing you can do about it.

The descaling process is as important as using good quality water. Invest in these two processes and your machine will last much longer.

There’s some drama at the moment in the water industry relating to reverse osmosis - about the amount of discarded water in the process. There’s no need for reverse osmosis- Rand Water is not that bad.
