Soos ons in Afrikaans sê..."die koeël is klaar deur die kerk"

The owners had a chance to set the record straight, and failed dismally

I think there is a huge number of Cycle Science clients out there that are riding fake bikes and they don't even know it  You want to tell me they only sold 3-4 fakes...sorry but I do not buy that story

I spoke to Robbie and here are the facts: they were all fully aware and totally informed that the pinarellos we're not genuine prior to the purchase. Despite being wealthy they wanted to save money but still have the designer label. After being humiliated in Australia and forced(?) to buy a new bike he develops a sense of indignation and self righteousness and exacts revenge by going the cowardly route and contacting carte Blanche, regardless of the fact that he is jeopardizing someone's livelihood. He only has himself to blame. No one put a gun to his head. Take responsibility!

would you pay R91k for a bike that you knew was fake? Something tells me they are trying to pull the wool over your eyes too!

Here's a thing. We all know who Andrew Armstrong is. He has the courage to put his name and face to his claims. Who are you?

If this is/was the case, why have CS refunded one person, and apparently when another client was phoned by CB, he was unaware that his bike was fake.

I was also offered a "parallel imported" S Works early in January this year. John was discussing his new "S Works", and said I could get it for R 20 000, and custom painted.

I ran a mile when I also noticed no serial number on the BB, and told the local Specialized store about it.

I watched carte blanche and I felt really sorry for these guys..

Their worlds as they currently know them are going to be totally destroyed..

their families and the lives of many innocent people associated with cycle science either directly or indirectly are going to be adversely affected..

.but for many of us on the hub in a month this will be forgotten while many innocent will only begin to live the true extent of the aftermath.

So please spare a thought for them

Johnny Cash said it best, " because you're mine, I walk the line"

The crooks should have spared a thought for their nearest and dearest and how they would be affected, BEFORE they chose their path.

Rational people bring the potential fallout of their actions into their cost-benefit calculations when they concider their path. The impact on their families should have kept them on the straight and narrow. That fact that it didn't is something that they all will need to live with.

Having said that, I do feel for their children. Not because these guys got caught, but because they were raised by people who, knowing the difference between right and wrong, decided to say "F@ck it" to honest living.

Ag pls.. fake and grey.. 2 different things. . They sold them to these guys as grey products not fake.. there is one hell of a difference.. I know a couple of really stupid people, but none would willingly pay 91K for a fake. 20k yes maybe but not 91K.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that they think it's okay to sell fake stuff.. and they are now totally screwed in ay case.. selling fake goods is illegal.. finished and klaar.

They should not be selling fakes in the first place, with or without the buyer knowing. You sound like one of the drug lords on the cape flats now " We cant help it when children buy our drugs"

[Robbie and John sold fake Pinarellos].....regardless of the fact that [they were] jeopardizing [their own] livelihood. [They have] only [themselves] to blame [for breaking the law and misleading their loyal clients]. No one put a gun to [their] heads. Take responsibility!

There, Corleoni (gangster, huh?), helped you out a bit.

I saw this on Carte Blanche last night and found this forum, I am about to buy my first road bike and now I'm a bit tentative. Can anyone recommend a reputable dealer?

Contact Wyatt Earp here on the hub, or call him at his shop, Summit Cycles in Crowthorne near Kyalami. (011 315 8311).

I bought my first bike from him 14 years ago, and it is still the genuine article.

Exactly.. If they knew it was a fake they would never be paying those amounts unless they were very stupid... And anyone who has 90k to throw at a bike will be anything but

Not sure if its been brought up before but why do the bike manufacturers not have a website where you can go register your bike using the s/n. Surely then you will know immediately if your bike is fake or not.
