I got a new bike last week, and my mates' reaction were priceless. One bought me a chain sock, the other a bottle cage, another one a set of bottles. On it's maiden ride, I got to go first down a new piece of singletrack with two Go-Pro riders (trying) to follow :D It was awesome.

And yes, after having spanked a great many 29'ers on my 16.2Kg 26" Axis, I can tell you flat-out that a 29er is as fast as claimed.

Happened to me on Tues.

Couldn't wait to tell a mate I finally had a brand-spanking new set of wheels - smsed him before I even got home & saw it...

Apparently the correct response to news like that is "Tell me about this girl you know that I met on Tinder"

Bleak.

I usually just say something bad about the brand or model bike and then get on with riding. This is what I get from mates when I get a new bike so it`s all good.

Unless its the same make as your bike, then you have a beeeeeg problem

The guys I ride with ride the same bikes until they fall apart. Then scour the hub for another old 26er for cheap and keep going. I currently have 3 really cool bikes, a morewood izimu , kona coiler and azonic steelhead that all together cost me under 20k

So what is the correct feeling when one of your mates gets a new bike?

Should you

a. Feel incensed with jealousy and tipex him out of your address book?

b. Feel really happy for him and wish him many happy hours on the new pony

c. Go and buy yourself a new one to make yourself feel better?

None of the above, tell him it's a nice bike but it looks too big (or too small) for him.
