Yesterday morning, I watched a film called The Girl. It's about Alfred Hitchcock's obsession with Tippi Hedren, which, I reckon, is scarier than any of the films he made.

Worth a watch.

I think it's a consumer-driven thing, TBH. Increasingly, people wanting to see "how things finished" and leaving all the imagination out of it.

If it had finished any other way, or without the last 3 minutes - it also would have opened it up for sequels, spin-off publications and so on. But no. We want "closure" and to be spoon fed.

Having said that - it was still a fantastic movie.

I can see why being married to a person that throws a hissy fit if a movie doesn't have a conclusive ending and preferably a happy one.

I got her to watch The Italian Job (the proper one not the last piece of rubbish) just to see her reaction to the ending. It was worth it I swear you could have heard her screams in space.

Have any of you seen the movie The Lover - apart from the PG18 SN bits , so well done - that scene in the car when he tries to take her hand  - auto eroticism done well.

another oldie but goodie is The Unbearable lightness of being with Daniel Day Lewis.

and also Last of the Mohicans.

Ooh yes once were warriors was brilliant.

Also give me a Clint Eastwood western and I am happy... mind you give me any Clint Eastwood movie amd I am happy, Million dollar baby, Grand Torino all brilliant stuff. Whatever he is involved with, infront of the camera or behind it.. same with Al Pacino and Robert de niro, I really enjoy them.

I have all Eastwoods's westerns.. I watch them every yr..

I also watch all the Godfathers every yr.

He just got better and better over time and his directing is fantastic (I'm not sure how many saw that coming but for sure didn't).

On the subject of westerns I will always have time to watch The Magnificent Seven, love that movie.

I loved Clannad's "I Will Find You" from the Last of the Mohicans.

A great but under-rated western is Silverado. Kline and Costner do a great job, while Cleese's character is kinda amusing.

Have to agree with Grumps, if someone held a gun to my head and I had to pick one movie only it would be 'The Shawshank Redemption'.

Many others I enjoyed include:

Fight Club, Patch Adams, The Life of David Gale, Crimson Tide, The Silence of the Lambs, A Few Good Men, Last of the Mohicans and I can go on and on...

'Epic' type movies - Braveheart, Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan (those first 15-20 minutes!!!)

But if you HAVE to :)

Forgot about Good Will Hunting, watched it again the other day. Another 'old style' movie with an open ending...

Add Apocalypse Now. Especially the Redux version.
